Before the locals swing into spring, there’s always some news during this three to four-week stretch in between high school seasons.

This comes from Alvirne, as the NHSportsPage, com reported on Saturday that Broncos basketball coach Sam Bonney-Liles is one and done.

Bonney-Liles, a former Broncos standout and the son of former longtime Alvirne athletic director Karen Bonney, led the Broncos to a 12-6 mark and they were three points away from reaching the Division I semifinals, losing to Trinity 62-60 in overtime in the quarters.

Not only are the Broncos losing a good coach, the program is now in an important quest for stability. The next coach they hire will be the fifth to run the Broncos bench in what woud be a span of our seasons, an oddessey that began when Leo Gershshgorin stepped away stunningly with a week to go in the regular season two years ago. Alvirne’s coach in 2024-2025, left to take full time job at Derryfield School running the athletic facilities as well as coaching the Cougars boys basketball team.

Bonney-Liles, who was a perfect fit, is reportedly moving to Pennsylvania where his girlfriend accepted a coaching position.

SEVERAL NEW SPRING COACHES

There new coaches all over the area for the spring season, which is not unusual. Jamie Trudel, the Titans assistant coach last year who has coached in the Nashua Park-Recreation leagues as well, takes over at Nashua North for softball, while former assistant Mike Seo is new in charge of the Titans girls lacrosse program. Alvirne has a new softball coach in Haley Peaslee, while the Broncos have two new varsity lacrosse coaches with Molly Norton taking over the girls team while Rick Sperazzo is the new boys coach.

BG WON’T STOP USING STELLOS

The natural assumption when Bishop Guertin unveiled its plans to build a field turf field on part of the Elliott Field complex would be it wasn’t going to use Stellos any longer, and that couldn’t be further from the truth. Football will still be there and the Cards plan on playing some of their bigger rectangular sports (field hockey, soccer, lacrosse) that would draw major crowds there as well.

“Our largest events will still exceed the capacity of the campus,” Cards principal Jason Strniste told parents in a newsletter. “We anticipate maintaining an agreement with the city of Nashua to support Stellos Stadium for these events.

“We have an existing agreement at Stellos through 2031 and have begun discussions to update and extend our existing agreement based on the recent renovations.”

SPRING TOURNEY INFO

Well, what The Telegraph reported a couple of weeks ago is now official, Nashua South is no longer the site for the Division I and II Outdoor Track Championships because the proposal dared to include a couple of events the day prior. Now both will be held on Saturday May 30 at Londonderry High School instead.

There’s nothing too surprising in tourney venues, with Northeast Delta Dental Stadium (all baseball finals) and Plymouth State (all softball semis and finals) set, and here Holman will remain the Division I semis site (June 10).

Stellos Stadium in Nashua will be the site of the boys Division II boys lacrosse semis and finals, but no site has been listed for the girls Division II as of yet. Exeter will host Division I girls finals but no site has been listed as of yet for the semifinals. Here we go again.
