HS Roundup: Cards edge Panthers, Bronco lax nips Titans

The game to be at at on Wednesday may have been Bishop Guertin baseball at Nashua South, as it was pitchers duel between the two staffs, Aiden Meany for the Cards and the combo of Nick Shaw and Jake O’Connor for the Panthers.

But there were other entertaining games yesterday, so here’s the rundown:

BASEBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 2,

NASHUA SOUTH 1

The Cards improved to 3-4 with their third win in a row, as Meaney went the distance, allowing just two hits, one each by South’s River Hart and Adam Picard.

Meaney fanned four and did not walk a hitter.

Jake Mitchell went 3 for 4 with two RBIs to pace the Cards, who next visit Alvirne on Monday.

Shaw tossed four innings, allowing the two runs on four hits. O’Connor pitched three innings of scoreless relief for the Panthers (1-4), allowing one hit and striking out one. They are at Manchester Memorial Friday at 7 p.m. at Gill Stadium.

PINKERTON 7,

MERRIMACK 3 (11 innings)

The Tomahawks battled back from an early 3-0 deficit to send the game into extra innings before giving up four runs in the top of the 11th.

Ayden Curren, Owen and Elliot Medlock pitched for the Tomahawks, who managed just four hits.

Merrimack (1-5) visits Bedford on Friday.

GIRLS TENNIS

NASHUA NORTH 5,

ALVIRNE 4

The Titans took two of three doubles in another close match this week with the Broncos. The No. 1 team of Ashley Goh and Andrea Milani (8-2) and the No. 3 tandem of Sonya Raue and Ashley O’Young (8-5) provided the difference.

North got singles wins from Goh at No. 1 (8-2), Caitlyn Mamos (9-8) and O’Young (8-2) at Nos. 5 and 6.

Alvirne got singles wins at Nos. 2 and 3, Avery Baker (8-2) and Gabby Cummins (8-6) plus No. 4 Kenzi Legg (8-5). The Broncos doubles team of Cummins and Legg also won 8-5.

PINKERTON 5,

MERRIMACK 1

Shu Grosso got Merrimack’s only win at No. 1 singles, as the match never reached doubles due to rain.

BOYS LACROSSE

ALVIRNE 12,

NASHUA NORTH 11

The Titans came close to getting their first win, leading by three goals at one point, but fell short as the Broncos secured their first win thanks to Jared Graham’s big day.

Graham lead Alvirne with eight goals, while Calvin Durham had 2, Eric Allard and Cole Bucknam a goal each.

Jack Peters had three goals and four assists, while Robert Cannaway and Trent Gerlowski each had a pair of goals. Jayden Montgomery grabbed five ground balls while goalie Devyn Lavoie had six saves for North.

Alvirne improved to 1-3 and the two teams are slated to play again on Friday in Hudson.
