HS Roundup: MacDonald paces Broncos, Meesig aids Titans

There were some pitching gems on Monday.

Two of them in local high school baseball/softball were by Alvirne’s Josh MacDonald and Nashua North’s Alex Meesig. Meanwhile, in softball, Nashua North picked up its first win of the season after a tough first week.

Here’s a closer look at Monday’s busy day:

BASEBALL

ALVIRNE 10,

NASHUA SOUTH 3

Josh MacDonald went six innings with one earned run to help the Broncos blow by the Panthers. Nick Jacques (one hit, two runs), Evan Beals (two hits, two runs) and Kyle Boulanger (triple) played fantastic at the plate. South’s Dean Adams had a homerun and three RBIs. Alvirne visits South on Friday.

NASHUA NORTH 6,

MANCHESTER MEMORIAL 4

Alex Meesig’s complete game that allowed three hits, while striking out 13, carried the Titans.

Derek Finlay led the offense going 3 for 5, scoring three runs. Travis Holbrook had two RBIs, Liam Novak was 3 for 4 with a run and Andy Barry recorded his first varsity hit with a RBI single.

Also, Jimmy Reel was 2 for 2 with an RBI and contributed with a sacrifice bunt and sacrifice fly.

North will host Memorial on Wednesday.

LONDONDERRY 5,

MERRIMACK 3 (8 innings)

The Tomahawks kept pace with the Lancers, but fell in the end to the defending state champions. Dylan Brander took the loss, pitching seven innings and surrendering 12 hits as Merrimack was outhit 13 – 5.

Still, the Tomahawks tied the game in the sixth but the Lancers loaded the bases in the top of the eighth to get two runs.

The two teams will play in Londonderry today.

WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 4,

HINSDALE 0

Troy and Sean Brennan had a combined one hitter to lead the Warriors to their first win of the season.

Ty Collins, Alex Belusa, Ty Bacci and Jacob Phillips led the offense.

WLC hosts Hinsdale on Friday.

PINKERTON 10,

BISHOP GUERTIN 0

The Cardinals fall to the Astros in five innings and move to 0-2 on the season. Liam Doyle was the winning pitcher collecting no hits and striking out 13 Cardinals batters.

SOFTBALL

NASHUA NORTH 17,

MANCHESTER MEMORIAL 15

The Titans pick up their first victory of the season as Mackenzie Tanner (four singles), Cailin Carbonneau (homerun, three runs) and Riley Brady (three singles) anchored the offense.

Paige Stapledon and Lissette Medina combined for six strikeouts in the contest. North visits Memorial on Wednesday.

PINKERTON 5,

BISHOP GUERTIN 1

The game was scoreless going into the fifth, when Pinkerton hit a homer to take the lead and the Cardinals kept having trouble at the plate.

BG’s lone run came on a triple by Petra Bajdek that scored Meghan Davey.

CAMPBELL 19,

SOUHEGAN 0

Maddie Davis (win) and Morgan Brunier combined for 10 strikeouts in the Cougars shutout win over the Sabers. Campbell had 11 hits, eight stolen bases and played errorless ball.

Campbell hosts Milford on Tuesday and Souhegan visits Manchester west on Wednesday.

BOYS LACROSSE

CAMPBELL 13,

MILFORD 2

After a couple of close losses, the Cougars collect their first win of the season.

Brendan Boschi (three assists) and Tiernan Sullivan led the scoring outburst with four goals apiece. Drew Adamkos added two goals, while Nate Dion and Wyatt Tarek each had one goal and Ryan Guerrette made six saves.

Milford’s Andrew Herner scored both of their goals and Drew Hodges had 14 saves. The two teams will meet again at Campbell on Thursday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

NASHUA NORTH 19,

MANCHESTER CENTRAL 2

Kiley O’Brien led the Titans with six goals and five assists, while Lily Brooks (five goals, three assists) and Keira Sice (five goals, two assists) also had big days.

Reagan Belanger also had two goals for North while Ava Coucy added a goal and goalie Samantha Canto had four saves. North had 11 draw controls to Central’s seven.

LONDONDERRY 20,

MERRIMACK 1

The Tomahawks record their third straight loss on Monday at the hands of the Lancers.

Merrimack visits Londonderry on Thursday.

BOYS TENNIS

ALVIRNE 5,

NASHUA SOUTH 4

Alvirne winners were Peyton Meuse (8-2), Ashton Meuse (8-4) and Tom Bondaruk (8-4). Doubles winners were Meuse/Meuse (8-1) and Jon Rudy/Broady Burke (8-4), the key to the match after the teams split singles.

Winning for South were Neil Kachappily (8-5), Shubh Dubey (8-4) and Praneet Nadella (8-1). The team of Akhil Kammita/Kachappily won 8-5 in their doubles match.

Alvirne visits South today at 3:30, moved from Wednesday due to the inclement forecast.

BISHOP GUERTIN 9,

PINKERTON 0

The Cardinals shut down the Astros with wins by Pranav Marwaha (8-1), Tommy Lubin (8-5), Dean Liakos (8-2), Ryan Wallat (8-1), Gavin Bombara (8-1) and Ryan Stack (8-2).

Doubles winners were Marwaha/Lubin (8-3), Riz Bhattarai/Liakos (8-0) and Bombara/Wallat (8-2).

GIRLS TENNIS

NASHUA SOUTH 9,

ALVIRNE 0

The Panthers make a clean sweep as singles winners were Margaret Wagner (8-2), Priya Shokeen (8-2), Abby Finchum (8-6), Kat Tsao (8-2), Krisha Dani (8-3) and Jenna Lecklider (8-0). Doubles winners were Wagner/Shokeen (8-1), Finchum/Tsao (8-0) and Dani/Lecklider (9-7).

They will visit Alvirne today at 3:30, another rescheduling from Wednesday.

NASHUA NORTH 9,

MANCHESTER MEMORIAL 0

Winning their singles matches for the Titans were Ashley Goh (8-3), Audrea Milani (8-3), Lillian Azevedo (8-0), Caitlyn Mamos (8-4), Sanya Rane (8-0) and Ashley O’Young (8-0).

Doubles winners were Goh/Milani (9-7), Azevedo/Mamos (8-3) and Claire Desrosiers/Isabella Davidson (8-3). North visits Memorial on Wednesday.

BISHOP GUERTIN 6,

PINKERTON 3

The Cardinals (3-0) saw wins in singles from Katelyn Nichols (8-4), Hannah Gilbertson (8-0), Natalie MacSweeney (8-0), Laura Bucci (8-4) and Abbey Linskey (8-0).

Their lone win in doubles came from the team of Nichols/Gilbertson (8-5).

MERRIMACK 6,

LONDONDERRY 3

The Tomahawks battled it out with the Lancers that included three tiebreakers. Singles winners were Shu Grosso, Sarah Hardy, Vitalia Brock and Emily Winefield.

Winning in doubles competition were Grosso/Hardy and Jordan Zebuhr/Winefield.

Merrimack hosts Londonderry on Wednesday.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

WINDHAM 3,

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 0

The Cavaliers got swept by the scores of 26-24, 25-22, 25-16 for their first loss of the season. HB welcomes the Jaguars on Thursday.
