NASHUA — For the first time since 2019, there will be a high school and middle school spring sports season in Nashua.

The Nashua Board of Education early Monday evening unanimously approved a plan for spring sports presented to them by Nashua athletic director Lisa Gingras.

Last year, of course, the spring sports season was cancelled by the New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association due to the pandemic.

But the NHIAA has given everything in general a full go for this spring, leaving it up to individual school districts for the details.

The basics of the Nashua plan for the season, which includes baseball, softball, plus boys and girls lacrosse, track and tennis, mirrored the fall, as four fans per home team athlete will be allowed to attend games, with no visiting fans. But by mid-May, if the health environment keeps improving, Gingras said the hope is that visiting fans will also be allowed to attend.

There are quarantine protocols and guidelines in the plan, and Gingras said that masks will be worn by athletes with exceptions in the case of causing any possible safety issues, such as certain events in track and pitchers and catchers in basebal/softball.

Registration is currently open for student athletes at their respective school web sites. Impact testing by appointment can begin March 24. Tryouts/practices are set to begin March 29 with in-season competition to start April 12.
