Mercier comes through to propel HB wrestlers to finals
HOLLIS – They’re in the finals, but it wasn’t easy.
No, the Hollis Brookline Cavaliers had their hands full on Wednesday night in the Division II semifinals against Goffstown, a team it had beaten just recently by 14 points.
But HB found itself down 18-12, as the Grizzlies had momentum after Brendan Brill’s pin at 145. Someone needed to step up.
Enter Ryan Mercier at 152. He controlled his match from the start and pinned Goffstown’s Seth Osborne to even the match and the Cavaliers went on to a 36-30 win and a date with Bishop Guertin in Saturday’s Division II Dual Meet Finals.
Other victories for the Cavs from Seth Ponders by pin at 120 pounds, Troy Moscatelli (138, pin), Teddy Moscatelli (160, decision), Hundter Hudzik (170, pin) and Jack Duquette (182, decision). They also got a forfeit at 220.
Teddy Moscatelli’s win gave the Cavs a 21-18 lead that it never lost. It was followed by Hudzik’s pin and Duquette’s decision, and that gave HB a 30-18 bulge.
