Things didn’t look good for the Nashua High School North girls basketball team heading into Thursday night’s game at Londonderry.
The Titans had just seven players, but still managed to pull off a six-point win.
“It was a great road win,” North coach Curt Dutilley said. “We only had seven varsity players and it was an awesome effort by all of them. We played some great smart team basketball.”
The Titan boys won as well, but the news wasn’t as good for the BG boys vs. Windham.
Here’s all of that and more, including some hockey schedule notes as North-Souhegan finally opens its season today:
GIRLS BASKETBALL
NASHUA NORTH 40,
LONDONDERRY 34
The Titans got 17 points from Lilly Brooks, plus 10 from Grace Cardin to get a big win while shorthanded.
North led 21-14 at the half, and the lead was cut to two,31-29, heading into the fourth quarter despite Brooks scoring seven in the period.
However they outscored the Lancers 9-5 in the final eight minutes to hold on.
The two teams meet again today at 6 in Nashua.
WINDHAM 44,
MERRIMACK 40
The Tomahawks lost a tight game to the Jaguars to fall to 2-3 despite 13 points from Gillian Waller.
Keira Bike added 10 and Lilli Dabillis seven to the locals’ cause.
BOYS BASKETBALL
NASHUA NORTH 64,
LONDONDERRY 57
The Titans’ Sam McElliott continued his fine start to the season with 21 points while Jack Sullivan added 16.
Jackson Cox led Londonderry, which will see North (3-1) again today at 4 p.m. in Nashua, with 18 points. The Lancers will be deemed the home team for that game.
WINDHAM 57,
BISHOP GUERTIN 41
The Cards managed just 14 first half points and could not recover. While former Cardinal Joe Dasilva had 22 points, Guertin failed to have anyone in double figures. Leading way for BG were Nate Kate and Dylan Santosuosso with nine points each.
The two teams, however, see each other again tonight in Windham at 6. It will be BG’s (6-3) third game in three days.
BOYS SKIING
NASHUA SOUTH THIRD,
NASHUA NORTH FIFTH
The Panthers (354) took third behind seven-team meet winner Timberlane (377) and second place Londonderry (361). The Titans (322) finished fifth behind Keene (350) at Pat’s Peak.

NASHUA SOUTH SIXTH,

Audra Robinson finished second overall at Pat’s Peak but the Panthers (325 points) still finished behind five other teams in a seven-team meet won by Keene (384). North was seventh at 323.
South’s Lily Vogel (25, 1:22.94) and Kaitlyn West (31, 1:27.35) also paced the Panthers.

HOCKEY GAME ON, SOME CHANGED
The Nashua North-Souhegan hockey team will finally open its 2021 season today. There was some question as to rink availability earlier this week, but indeed it’s all set for the Saber-Titans to take on Merrimack at West Side Arena at 3:30.
There have been some schedule changes for other teams. Merrimack will not play at Nashua South-Pelham Saturday as originally scheduled; instead the Kings will host Manchester Memorial at 2:10 p.m. at Conway Arena. The Tomahawks’ next game will be Monday night at Dover.
Also, the Hollis Brookline-Derryfield hockey team is on pause, its game this past Wednesday vs. Pembroke-Campbell as well as a rematch Saturday with P-C, and a game next Saturday vs. North-Souhegan all canceled. Instead the Saber-Titans will take on Merrimack that day at Conway Arena.
