HS Roundup: Warriors join hockey party; HB, BG wrestlers win

Finally, area high school boys hockey team joined the party.

Up until Wednesday, Bishop Guertin had been the only local boys team to be playing this season. But last night the Hollis Brookline-Derryfield Warriors opened up with an impressive win over Goffstown at Conway Arena.

Meanwhile, the Guertin girls hockey team stayed unbeaten with a one-sided win over area rival Souhegan. Also, the HB and BG wrestling team were winners as well.

It all added up to a busy Wednesday:

BOYS HOCKEY

HB-DERRYFIELD 5,

GOFFSTOWN 3

The Warriors, in Division III, looked impressive against the Division II Grizzlies with five different goal scorers: Paul Vachon, Jacob Roy, Quinn Silvio, Sal Vella and Jesse Gertz.

Freshman Kyle Sanborn earned his first High School assist. Other assists on the night were from Vella, Torin White, Mike McLaughlin and Cole Giersch.

Senior goalie Rylan Morgan had 22 saves with help from a good defensive effort.

GIRLS HOCKEY

BISHOP GUERTIN 8,

SOUHEGAN 0

The Cards are now 5-0 after rolling at St. A’s Sullivan Arena, taking a 5-0 lead after one period and not looking back.

Makenna Reekie earned the shutout in net for BG.

The two teams meet again on Saturday at Hudson’s Cyclones Arena.

WRESTLING

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 54,

NASHUA SOUTH 12

The Cavs improved to 3-1 with pins by Seth Ponders at 120, Hunter Crea (126), Troy Moscatelli (138), R.J. McAdams (145), Ryan Mercier (152), Teddy Moscatelli (160) and Henry Burns (195).

Nashua South got pins by Aidan Walsh at 132 and Jimmy Brown at 285.

The Cavs host Merrimack on Saturday while the Panthers will host the Tomahawks next Wednesday.

BISHOP GUERTIN 30,

ALVIRNE 17

The Cards moved to 2-0 on the dual meet season with pins by Liam Chapman (126), Will Murphy (152) and James Murphy (170) and forfeit win at 145.

Alvirne got a win by Jacob Kulick at 120, and pins by Kyle Gora and Hunter Linke at 182 and 195.

Guertin hosts Londonderry Saturday while the Broncos host Goffstown on Feb. 6.

TIMBERLANE 68,

NASHUA NORTH 3

The Owls continued their assault on the dual meet opposition.

Norths only win was by Matt Oliver at 120 by points. Jonathan Torres wrestled tough at 126, and heavyweight Max Ackerman had a lead but ended up losing by fall. Titan Mickey Mathson at 132 lasted nearly three periods but got pinned late in third.

North hosts Windham next Wednesday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

GOFFSTOWN 61,

MERRIMACK 31

The Tomahawks saw their record fall to 2-2 despite nine points from Emma Valluzzi and seven by Lilli Dabillis.

The Tomahawks are at Windham next Tuesday.
