Bronco golfers edged by Trinity in damp season opener

By Tom King - Staff Writer | Sep 11, 2020

MANCHESTER – The Alvirne High School golf team was able to brave the rain on Thursday.

It just wasn’t able to make up two strokes against Trinity.

In what is believed to be the first local competitive high school sporting event since March 11, the Broncos fell to Trinity, 215-217, in the season opener for both at Derryfield Country Club.

“Real troopers out there,” Alvirne coach Sy Tebbetts said. “The kids are great.”

Bronco Noah Leclair was the match medalist with a 37. Ethan Doran shot a 43 and junior transfer Lauren Rudiger made an immediate impact with a 44.

Alex Blais (46) and Peyton Meuse (47) rounded out the scoring for the Broncos, while Trinity was paced by Josh Salzman’s 40 and a 42 by both Rheya King and Patrick Schwab.

Both programs this year dropped down to Division II. In the past couple of years, that division has used the Stableford (points) system, but this year, according to Tebbetts, Division II will revert back to stroke play.

Alvirne hosts Salem on Tuesday.
