South girls tennis adds to the Bridge Battle theme

GIRLS TENNIS

Nashua South 7,

Nashua North 2

The Panthers did their part in South’s stunning 5-0-1 domination on the first day of the spring Battle of the Bridge, taking five of six singles to get the win before doubles. With their third straight, the Panthers are now 6-2.

Singles winners were Kaitlin Fitzgibbons at No. 1, 8-2;Shrijaa Mohan at No. 3, 8-1; Priya Shoksheen at No. 4, 8-0; Nora Goldenberg at No. 5, 8-1 and Joanne Lee at No. 6, 8-1.

The Panthers took two of three doubles with Shokeen/Goldenberg (8-1) and Katherine Tello/Samantha Meyer (8-1) winning at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively.

North got a win from Elizabeth Dion, 8-5 at No. 2 singles and Dion teamed up with Brenna Rose at No. 1 doubles for an 8-4 win.

North, which visits Bishop Brady on Tuesday, is 1-7. South hosts Londonderry on Monday.

Kearsarge 6,

Wilton-Lyndeborough 3

The Warriors had one of their better matches despite falling to 1-7. Jackie Bird (No. 1 singles, 8-6), Emma Krug (No. 2, 9-7) and Erin MacDonald (No. 3, 8-4) all came out on top.

SOFTBALL

Nashua North 4,

Alvirne 3

Jamie Parker played well defensively at shortstop and had a two-run double as the Titans pulled off the upset, improving to 3-4.

Also for North, Jacqueline Dumont tripled and scored on an RBI single by Alexis Miranda. Emily Blondin had a triple while Elizabeth Deck had two singles and scored on a Shannon Grady RBI single. In the circle, Abigail Little pitched a complete game, needing just 79 pitches, giving up a pair of runs in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Leading the Broncos (5-4) were Jenna Bradish, Alexis Charonneau and Kayli Boucher (two singles each). Megan Jacques allowed four runs on six hits with one strikeout and one walk in defeat. The Broncos visit Spaulding on Saturday, while North is at Timberlane on Monday.

Concord 4,

Nashua South 1

The Tide snapped a 1-1 tie in the late innings as the Panthers fell to 3-6. Natalie Ward had an RBI single for the Panthers while Delia Callery went 3 for 3. Erica Frothingham took the loss in the circle, allowing 10 hits and four runs while fanning three and walking just one.

South is at Merrimack on Monday.

Windham 5,

Souhegan 4

The Sabers gave up three runs in the bottom of the seventh to fall to 4-2. They were led by doubles by Ara Van Ballegooyen and Cameron Whitney (two), plus Callie McBride’s RBI hit.

Wilton-Lyndeborough 12,

Newmarket 0 (5 innings)

The Warriors (6-1) scored 10 runs early to put the game away. Lexi Balam (4 for 4, two RBIs), Janel Bouchard (two triples, three RBIs), Rachel Christino and Lily Foisie (two hits each) led the offens. Balam scattered six hits with seven strikeouts. The Warriors host Pittsfield Saturday in a twinbill beginning at 11 a.m.

BASEBALL

Souhegan 5,

Windham 4

Sam Corbett’s squeeze bunt brought home Daniel Trzepacz with the winning run in the top of the seventh as the visiting Sabers improved to 3-2 with their third straight win.

Max Leonard had two hit, two stolen bases and two runs scored while Trzepacz had two hits and two runs, and Calbe Behn had RBI triple. Nick Wilson’s pinch hit fielder’s choice tied it in sixth.

Jacob Grassett tossed a complete game, allowing just one earned run on seven hits, striking out six. Corbett had great game defensively at short.

Wednesday’s late games

Manchester Memorial 21,

Nashua North 7

The Titans fell to 6-4 despite an RBI double by James Bolton plus hits by Will Brooks and Jack Gould. Colton Welch also had an RBI. North hosts South at Holman Stadium at 7 pm. Friday

Wilton-Lyndeborough 7,

Hopkinton 5

Neal Brennan improved to 3-1 on the mound for the Warriors, who are now 5-1 on the season, as he scattered seven hits in 5.1 innings, allowing four runs.

Troy Brennan came in and closed it out. While Shane Partridge, Troy Brennan and Owen Hughes had big run-scoring hits.

BOYS LACROSSE

Hollis Brookline 18,

Manchester Memorial 0

Ryan Olson (two assists) and J.J. Fiore each had four goals as the Cavaliers moved to 3-4. Jack Aldana-Proulx led the Cavs with nine ground balls and Garrett Moloney had a six-save shutout.

HB visits Nashua South at Stellos Stadium on Monday night.

Laconia 22,

Milford 11

The Spartans, playing their third game in three days, ran out of gas in the second half to drop to 3-3.

Cam O’Shaughnessy led the way for Milford with four goals and two assists while Gavin Urda had three and two. Jakob Fantasia, Riley O’Shaughnessy, Liam Joyner and Corey Girouard each had a goal. Owen Hutchinson and Matt Hannon each had an assist. Tim Gagnon had 13 saves in net with some defensive help from Josh Shaw.

Milford travels to conval on Monday.

Wednesday late games

Campbell 7,

Plymouth 6

Nick McCarthy’s first career goal tied the game with 53 seconds left and McCarthy followed that up with the game winner with just seven seconds left. The Cougars are now 1-4 and visit Inter-Lakes on Friday.

Derryfield 7,

Hollis Brookline 0

Garrett Moloney had 14 saves in the Cavs’ tough loss.

GIRLS LACROSSE

John Stark 13,

Hollis Brooline 8

Kelsey Sweeney had three goals and two assists while Tasha White had two goals and eight draw controls, but the Cavs (5-3) dropped their second straight.

Cece Fetter had two goals and five draw controls. Paisley Broadhurst rounded out the scoring with a goal and two Assists. Caroline Smith and Reagan Berry both had a solid day defensively.

Portsmouth 15,

Hollis Brookline 7

(Wednesday)

The Cavs hung around for most of the game but fell short, seeing their four-game win streak snapped (5-2). Kelsey Sweeney scored three second half goals while Cece Fetter scored two goals had six draw controls with five ground ball pickups to pace the scoring.

Clipper Relays

Merrimack boys, South girls fifth

The Merrimack boys and the Nashua South girls had the best team showings at the annual Clipper Relays in Portsmouth, both finishing fifth in the event won in both by Portmsouth. The Clippers tallied 57.89 points in the boys and 62.95 in the girls.

In the boys meet, Merrimack had 38.95 points. The next best local was Milford (11th, 13.97) while Nashua North was 14th the South 16th.

Merrimack won the 4Ã-100 in 44.37 behind the running of Jon Paulhamus, Tristam Wood, Jay Wozniak and Brian Genet. The team of Paulhamus, Genet, Wozniak and Adam Thornton took the 4Ã-200 in 1:34.38.

North’s 4Ã-800 team won with a school record time of 8:08.34 – Gediyon Prince, Bryce Eckenrode, Max Ireland and David Vorbach.

In the girls meet, South totaled 33.96 points while Bishop Guertin was seventh in 25.99. Nashua North was 10th in 15.98 while Milford 11th in 13.99. Merrimack was 15h with eight points.

Local winners included Nashua South in the 4Ã-200 with the team of Crismeily Borg, Corita Chartier, Sydney Lewis and Mackenzie Betty finishing in 1:50.59; Bishop Guertin in the 4Ã-800 with the team of Caroline Towle, Caroline Fischer, Julie Nigro and Kate Messer in at 9:53.84. North’s Alana Choate was tops in the girls triple jump in 33-4.5,

Cougars sweep

The Campbell girls and boys both won a recent eight-team meet at home with the girls totalling 115 points and the boys 113.

For the Cougar girls Shelby Phillips won both javelin and pole vault. Freshman Tori Allen won the high jump and the 100 hurdles while Cassie Hemming was a doulbe winner, taking both the 800 and 1600.  Catie Callinan won the 3200. 

On the boys side, in the field events Senior Spencer Snell came in first in both the javelin and discus to lead the way, while Jeffrey Allen came in first in the 800 and 1600, and the 4 x 400 team won as well.

(Wednesday)

The Sabers are now 7-0 as they swept singles with Matt Lapsley (8-1), Sam Goddard (8-0), Kyle Gibson (8-1), Dale Estes (8-0), Josh Lacailliade (8-1)and Michael Dodge (8-6) all prevailed. Lapsley/Goddard (8-0) and Gibson Estes (8-2) also won.
