High School Highlights: Milford softball routs Trinity, now 6-0
SOFTBALL
Milford 16, Trinity 0
The Spartans are now 6-0 after Jenna DeAngelis, Shannon Harbison and Abby Stillwagon combined for a no-hitter, striking out 11 Pioneers.
Also, Raven Comtois went 3 for 3 with a grand slam and five RBIs. Amanda Atkinson went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs while Brennan Parker was 2 for 2 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Milford visits Manchester West on Friday.
Nashua North 2, Man. Memorial 0
The Titans picked up their second win of the year (2-4) as Jacqueline Dumont with 2 for 4 with an RBI and scored a big run on a delayed steal of home. Nicole Perault had a single and two walks while Alexis Miranda was a defensive spark.
Londonderry 13, Nashua South 0
(5 innings)
The Panthers fell behind early and couldn’t bounce back, dropping to 3-5. Delia Callery had a hit but struggled in the circle, allowing all 13 runs on 15 hits over four innings. Amber Dube and Sarah Picard also had a hit each for South, which is at Concord on Thursday.
Bedford 16, Bishop Guertin 4
The Cards remain winless on the season (0-8) thanks in part to two home runs by the Bulldogs’ Erica Barley. Guertin gets another crack at Bedford on the road on Friday.
Alvirne 7, Merrimack 2 (10 innings)
The Broncos improved to 5-2 with five runs in the top of the 10th inning. Alexis Charbonneau went 2 for 5 with two RBIs while Kiara Chase pitched all 10 innings, allowing two earned runs with one strikeout, walking two intentionally.
For the 2-6 Tomahawks, Mandi Deliback threw all 10 innings. Kaleigh Blades and Lindsay Hui tallied three hits each, while Brenna Davenport and Erin Knauer each had two hits.
Thursday Alvirne visits Nashua North while the ‘Hawks are at Exeter.
Campbell 19, Somersworth 0
The Cougars (7-0) keep rolling, this time with 14 hits, paced by Emma Rousseau’s two doubles, and two singles each by Cassidy Gibbsons and Maddi Davis. Marissa Carignan tossed a one-hitter, striking out five.
Pelham 7, Hollis Brookline 2
The Cavaliers fell to 2-4 despite hits from Avery Webb, Delayni Kovalchek, Isabel Keefe, Megan McLaughlin and Krystle Plumadore. Gabby Paquin allowed seven runs while striking out two over seven innings. HB is off until it hosts Bow on Monday at 4 p.m.
Hopkinton 3, Wilton-Lyndeborough 2
The Warriors dropped their first of the season (4-1) in heartbreaking fashion as Hopkinton’s Alexis Ferns delivered a walk-off two-run single with two on and two out. WL had just two hits, with Lily Foisie knocking in a run and scoring a run. Lexi Balam suffered the loss for the Warriors, who visit Newmarket on Thursday at 4 p.m.
BASEBALL
Nashua South 8, Londonderry 6
The Panthers improved to 5-4 as Mason Matylewski went 3 for 3 with a double and Alex Amigo went 2 for 4 with a double, triple and a run scored under the lights at Holman Stadium.
Dante Young went 2 for 2 with a run scored while Andres Hulfachor (six innings, win) and Hunter Routhier (one, save) combined arm efforts.
South faces North on Friday night in the Battle of the Bridge showdown at 7.
Milford 6, Laconia 3
The Spartans took the lead for good with two runs in the third inning on RBI singles by Max Fortin Ricky DeBernardo in snapping a four-game losing streak and improving to 2-4.
Kolbe Heiple took the win for Spartans on the hill, surrendering three runs on four hits over 5-1/3 innings, striking out three. He also went 2 for 2 at the plate. Fortin recorded the last five outs to earn the save.
Pelham 7, Hollis Brookline 6
Dan Leone had two doubles and Max Mello pitched well for HB but it wasn’t enough as the Cavs dropped to 0-7.
Tyler Macdormand, Mitch Dreyer and Mellos each had two hits for the locals, who came close to tying things up but Mellos was thrown out at the plate after a Dreyer hit to end the game.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Merrimack 11, Nashua South 2
The Tomahawks picked up their fifth straight win while the Panthers, who face Nashua North on Thursday, dropped to 3-6. Abbey Rowe had eight saves in goal and Paige Garland and Kirsten McIntire had the only Panther goals. Merrimack hosts Bedford on Friday.
Notre Dame Prep 12, Souhegan 6
The Sabers were outscored 10-4 in the second half to suffer their first loss (10-1). Abby Cranney and O’Neill Galinson each had two goals and two assists while Bridgid Casey and Taylor Clark had a goal and an assist each. Taylor Dudek had an assist while Alex LaBrosse collected 10 saves. The Sabers are off until Tuesday when they visit Londonderry.
Campbell 9, Plymouth 8
Jocelyn Theriault scored six goals with an assist while goalie Allie Dyac, with some defensive help, made a few great saves in the final two minutes to preserve the win as the Cougars improved to 2-4.
Caitlin Newell had two goals and two assists, while Hannah Douglas and Emma Montenero each had a goal.
Boys Volleyball
Bishop Guertin 3, Hollis Brookline 0
The Cardinals avenged an early-season loss at the hands of Hollis Brookline with a 25-20, 25-21, 25-23 decision. Jack Wizboski was unstoppable with 19 kills and four service aces.
Nate Newton chipped in with 11 digs, and Connor Ogorchock had seven digs, four kills and a pair of aces for BG, which moves to 3-6. For 4-3 Hollis Brookline, Jonathan Brackett led with 16 kills and Matt Simco had six. Scott Van Coughnett delivered 27 assists.
Souhegan 3, Londonderry 2
One-time winner Londonderry pushed Souhegan to the brink, but when things got dicey, the Sabers got tough, battling off the canvas to take Game 4 25-22 and finishing the job in style, 15-2, in the fifth. Mike Estabrook led the winners with 18 kills and 14 digs. Khaled Nazeer had 14 kills and four digs. Brian Wilson contributed six kills with three aces, while Jackson Gordon (37 Assists, four aces) and Cameron Watson (five kills, five blocks) were key contributors.
Girls Tennis
Windham 9, Hollis Brookline 0
The Jaguars moved to 8-1 with the victory, while Hollis Brookline falls to 2-4.
Nashua South 7, Bishop Brady 2
Meghana Avvaru, Pallavi Ravada, Shrijaa Mohan, Priya Shoksheen and Nora Goldenberg clinched the match in singles with wins, before the doubles even began.
Winners of four in the last five, the South girls are off to an impressive 5-2 start.
Bishop Guertin 9, Concord 0
Margo Liakos had the big day for the Cardinals, winning in both singles and doubles and showcasing her stinging backhand. Bishop Guertin stepped up to 8-0 on the season with the win.
Alvirne 8, Londonderry 1
The Broncos bump up a notch to 4-5 with the win as Sara Ruigrok, Emma Beals, Jess Lortie and Ellie Ochieng all scooped up victories in singles and doubles. Emilienne Tarrant logged the other Alvirne singles win.
Pinkerton 9, Nashua North 0
The Titans fell to 1-6 despite a courageous effort from Brooke Bakhit, who dropped a hard-fought 8-6 decision at No. 3 singles.
Dover 9, Merrimack 0
Abby Fay and McKenzy Miller fought hard at the top two singles spots for the Tomahawks, who fall to 1-6 on the season. Dover impressed, moving to 8-1.
Milford 7, Plymouth 2
Grace Carpenter, Heather Hager, Katie Brown and Leslie MacGrath all scored a pair of victories, winning in both singles and doubles for the 6-1 Spartans. Sabrina Brown chipped in a handy singles win at No. 5 for Milford, which hits the road to ConVal Thursday.
St. Thomas 7, Souhegan 2
Lila Morgan continued her brilliant spring, winning at first singles and first doubles with Abby Tesconi for the Sabers, who drop to 2-4 on the year.
Boys Tennis
Alvirne 6, Londonderry 3
Gritty victories by Cole Taylor and Jake Natola at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, and by Anish Menghani and Justin Carbonneau in the 5th and 6th spots were pivotal for the Broncos, who improve to 2-6 on the season.
Pinkerton 8, Nashua South 1
Matt Beaudette and Anish Kammila provided the lone victory, at third doubles, for the Panthers, who fall to 6-2 on the year.
Hollis Brookline 7, Windham 2
Nick Vahe set the tone with an 8-0 victory at the No. 1 spot, and his Cavalier mates followed right in step with the convincing victory. Vahe, Darius Paradie, David Cherkassky and Ben Zielinsky all came away with wins in singles and doubles to help HB move to 5-1 on the season.
Dover 8, Merrimack 1
The Tomahawks tumbled to 0-8 on the year, but had a bright spot provided by Om Panwalker and Matt Tobey, who picked up their first varsity victory in a thrilling 9-8 tie-breaker.
Trailing 7-8 with their backs to the wall, the pair showed their toughness to win the finale.
Concord 6, Bishop Guertin 3
A Crimson Tide doubles sweep doomed Bishop Guertin, which falls to 2-4 on the year. Spencer Beek, Evan Butler and Graham Diack all won their singles matches for the Cardinals.
Boys Lacrosse
Milford 17, Bishop Brady 6
The Milford boys flaunted their
explosiveness in a tight one with Bishop Brady. Leading 6-5 in the third, the Spartans erupted for 11 straight games. Gavin Urda led all scorers with five goals and three assists.
Cam O’Shaughnessy contributed three goals and four assists. Liam Joyner added a pair of goals, as did Owen Hutchinson, Matt Hannon, and Corey Girouard. Defensive star Josh Shaw scored on a fast break after a caused turnover and ground ball pickup. Riley O’Shaughnessy helped out with an assist.
Goalie Tim Gagnon had seven saves to pick up his third win for the 3-2 Spartans. Jakob Fantasia and Gavin Urda combined to win 21 of the 25 faceoffs, while Alex Taylor and Kyle Forsley were tough on defense.
Milford hosts Laconia Thursday, its third game in three days.
Nashua South 13, Merrimack 4
Jaden Murphy scored four goals to lead the Panthers to victory. Joe Bodi and Tyler Bernard piched in a pair of goals and three assists each.
Devin Linscott had two goals and two assists, and Drew Fleury delivered two and one.
Tony Agor added a goal and Jordan Bodwell an assist for South, which saw Nate Radin (six saves) and Dominic Pasquale (three saves) split the goalie duties.
Ian Covell, Jay Lanigan, Jordan Petrocelli and Ben Eichman scored the Tomahawks goals with Jay Lanigan scooping up an assist.
Garrett Murray made a dozen saves between the pipes.
Bishop Guertin 15, Londonderry 6
Bishop Guertin showed no letdown from the big win over Pinkerton Academy, taking care of Londonderry in handy fashion.
The 9-0 Cards blasted to a 6-0 lead after one and made it 13-2 at the break. Drew Hailey and Brian Cameron, who had five assists, led the way with three goals apiece.
Brennan McInnis, Nathan Binette and Sam Prunier netted two goals each. Sean Cameron had a goal and two assists, while Ben Abladian and Alex Koutsos also scored goals.
