BOYS TENNIS

DIVISION I SEMIFINALS

No. 5 Bishop Guertin 5, No. 1 Londonderry 4

In an upset for the ages, the fifth-seeded Cardinals took out the top seed in the Division I semifinals. in dramatic fashion, with their third doubles team of Aaron Wang and Chris DiCesare going down 7-3 before coming back to win 9-8 (7-3).

Wang also won a close singles match 8-6, while Andrew Xiao and Chris Prothro won their matches 8-4 and 8-3 respectively. BG’s second doubles team of Xiao and Anthony DelPizzo won handily at 8-2, setting the stage for Wang and DiCesare’s heroics.

The Cards play Exeter in the finals Tuesday at 4 p.m. at The Derryfield School.

BASEBALL

Nashua North 14, Man. West 4 (5 inn.)

The Titans won easy behind the hitting of Joe Breen, who had a home run and two RBI, and Adam Leith and Brandon Karkhanis, who each had two hits. North got three pitchers into the game, with Jake Mellin getting the win.

Merrimack 5, Winnacunnet 2

Spencer Damon led the Tomahawks (13-5) with a complete-game eight strikeout performance on the mound, giving up just four hits. Offensively, the ‘Hawks were led offensively by Jackson King’s two hits, Tim Michaud’s RBI double, Chris Kinney’s RBI single, and Patrick Parker’s double.

Nashua South 12, Timberlane 2 (6 inn.)

The Panthers pounded out 18 hits with complete-game winning pitcher Jared Maloney also leading the team with three hits. Ryan Gendron, who had a home run, led a slew of South players with two hits, including Nick Reed, Dan McCormack, Frank Guarino, Jim Buckley, and Josh Oliver. Buckley and Oliver each had two doubles. The Panthers (10-8) await the results of today’s Londonderry-Goffstown game to determine if they are the eighth or ninth seed.

Bedford 10, Souhegan 0

Bedford’s Joe Maher allowed just two hits in shutting out the Sabers, and hit a two-run home run as well. Chris Almeida’s single and Nick Hession’s double were the only hits for Souhegan (6-8). James Astbury pitched two shutout innings of relief and right fielder Robby McCormick was strong defensively.

SOFTBALL

Timberlane 6, Nashua South 3

Erika Belair had a hit and two RBIs and Lindsay Davis had two hits to lead the Panthers, who finish the regular season at 7-11.

Souhegan 8, Bedford 7 (9 inn.)

Emily Gravel’s deep sacrifice fly in the ninth inning plated Angela Mukai for the Saber win. Mukai was also part of a two-run Souhegan fourth inning, doubling before being knocked in on a two-run single by Ali Sumski. Earlier in the game, sister Val Mukai was the catalyst, leading off the Saber first with a home run, followed by Ashley Tighe’s home run. Mukai also hit a three-run home run.

BOYS LACROSSE

Souhegan 14, Brady 3

Mike Van Sickle led the Sabers with five goals and three assists in the first half, as Souhegan rested their starters in the second half. Brendan Laine (three goals, one assist), Zadek Burstein (two goals, two assists) and Kyle Robertson (three assists) saw limited time. Conor Aten and Conor Casey scored their first varsity goals, Chayce Horton had a goal and an assist and Mitch Hale and Blake Burnley each had assists. Jack Chapman had a goal and an assist, and Mack Walker had a goal.

Souhegan 14, Dover 13 (OT)

On Wednesday night, Zadek Burstein scored his fifth goal of the game to push the Sabers past Dover in overtime, and also in the Division II standings, where Souhegan (14-3) will be the top seed in the playoffs. Brendan Laine had six goals and two asssits to lead the Sabers. Mike Van Sickle had two goals and two assists, Kyle Robertson had a goal, and Mack Walker, Jason Barsky, and Jack Chapman had assists. Jon Barker had 16 saves.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Souhegan 9, Hollis/Brookline 8

Meggie Whitney scored her third goal of the game with 47 seconds left in regulation to give the Sabers (11-3) the win.

Hollis tied the game with just under four minutes left on a goal by Abbey Ashe. Julie Worthern and Annabelle Eliopoulos had two goals each for the Cavaliers, who fell to 6-6 on the season.

Mickenzie Larivee had two goals and an assist for Souhegan, which got single goals from Joceyln Donohue, Madison Learned, Jamie Wallisch and Jesse Jay. Wallisch added three assists.

The other goal scorers for Hollis/Brookline were Hannah Mazzola, Caitlin Sweeney and Katie O’Hara.

Manchester Memorial 12, Nashua South 6

Ellie Shuman had three goals, while Kaylee Murray had two and Carina Pearson added one. Tori Shattuck had 12 saves for the Panthers (1-13).
