Memorial plans moving forward

By Jerry Guthrie - Vietnam veteran, Chairman of the Milford Vietnam Memorial Committee | Oct 15, 2022

Great progress continues to be made to honor those Milford citizens who served the country in the Vietnam War. The grassroots, all-volunteer Vietnam Memorial Committee, has worked over many years, with the approval of the Board of Selectmen and the support of Town staff, to design and erect a memorial that will be located adjacent to Railroad Pond and the existing World War II Memorial off Union Square. The conceptual design reflects several significant outreach efforts to obtain community input.

The memorial is intended to provide a place for serene reflection to honor those men and women of Milford who served and sacrificed for our country during the Vietnam War. The design utilizes Milford granite and locally-sourced materials.

To date, more than $50,000 has been raised from many generous local foundations, groups and individuals to fund the anticipated $125,000 cost of construction. The Committee will be out in the Milford community seeking additional contributions toward this project. There will be sales of T-shirts with the Memorial’s logo, caps, and engraved bricks at a contribution of $50 per brick.

The names of those Milford men and women who served in the Vietnam war zone will be placed on the memorial wall. The Committee wishes to insure it has compiled a complete list and is seeking help in identifying all those specific Milford service people. If you have any information to share, please contact the Committee at via Jerry Guthrie at Guthrieclan62@msn.com.

Brick sale order forms are available at www.milford.nh.gov/milford-memorial-committee, and the Town of Milford Facebook page.
