NASHUA – Alderman-at-Large Benjamin Clemons is running for another four-year term, citing the continued importance of making sound financial investments without breaking the bank.

“We need to work to promote our city to private investors and encourage new and re-development,” he said. “We have to ensure Nashua’s taxes don’t escalate out of control.”

Clemons said there are still opportunities for economic development along Daniel Webster Highway and Amherst Street. However, it must be done the right way.

“We need to continue to manage our city budgets wisely,” he said. “Nashua was recently ranked the second safest city in the nation, the fourth best run city in the nation and is always consistently ranked in the top 100 places to live in the nation. We have to keep Nashua on this path that promotes the right balance of spending and restraint so we can lower the tax burden for residents.”

Although his current term began in 2019, Clemons said he has been “on and off” the Board of Aldermen since 2008.

“During that time, I have led the effort to see through the construction of the Performing Arts Center, supported efforts to bring new housing across the city, supported the construction of the McCarthy Middle School and completed implementation of Nashua Community Power,” he said.

Clemons also said that unlike two years ago, Nashua has finally escaped the grasp of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The issues in 2023 are how we can position our city to continue to grow in a post-pandemic environment that encourages new investment in our community that will ultimately lower the tax burden for residents,” he said.

Clemons is a consumer loan officer at the MIT Federal Credit Union and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in American Studies from Franklin Pierce University.
