Former SAU 39 superintendent Peter Warburton dies

STRAFFORD — Peter H. Warburton, a career educator who served as superintendent of SAU 39, the district that includes Amherst and Mont Vernon schools, for several years before his retirement, has died.
Warburton, who also served as interim principal of Souhegan High School following the abrupt departure of former principal Jon Ingram while Warburton was superintendent of the district, was 74.
A resident of Strafford, Warburton was a Peace Corps volunteer, and taught English in South Korea. Earlier in his career, he taught English at Somersworth Middle School and became assistant principal at Northwood School, Kingswood Regional Middle School and Londonderry Middle School, then served as principal of Barrington Middle School.
Before coming to Souhegan, Warburton served as superintendent of schools for SAU 53, comprised of the school districts of Pembroke, Deerfield, Epsom, Chichester, and Allenstown.
