MANCHESTER — Fallout from the chaotic scene outside an Old Granite Street bar that left one young man dead and another in jail played out in Hillsborough County Superior Court North Monday morning, as members of both families gathered in the second-floor hallway awaiting the start of the suspect’s arraignment.

But although John Delee, the 22-year-old Salem man accused of firing eight rounds into the chest, shoulder and abdomen of 24-year-old Timothy Pouliot, had been transported from jail to the courthouse, he opted not to appear in the courtroom. Instead, he entered pleas of not guilty to the two felony charges and waived formal arraignment through his attorney.

Delee, a large man who stands 6 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs around 325 pounds, is charged with one count each of second-degree murder, which accuses him of recklessly causing Pouliot’s death by shooting him, and reckless conduct with a deadly weapon.

State Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Mitchell Weinberg, who conducted an autopsy on Pouliot’s body, ruled his death a homicide, caused by “multiple gunshot wounds.”

The date of Delee’s next scheduled court appearance has not yet been set.

Timothy's mother, Michelle Pouliot Bilodeau, joins them as they await the start of a court proceeding for John Delee, the Salem man accused of shooting and killing Pouliot.

The shooting occurred shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday at The Goat, a bar and grill at 50 Old Granite St., just east of Elm Street and within sight of the SNHU Arena.

Several videos captured by witnesses and posted online show a large man believed to be Delee inside the bar, while other footage captured outside the building shows a thin, smaller man who Pouliot’s family identified as Pouliot apparently hitting the larger man in the face.

“Then, bam, bam, bam, bam … eight times,” said Michelle Pouliot Bilodeau, Timothy Pouliot’s mother, one of the numerous family members and close friends who went to court Monday in hopes of seeing a remorseful Delee, Bolodeau said.

She also said her son “had nothing to do with (Delee) being thrown out,” referring to Delee being asked to leave the bar about an hour before the ultimately fatal confrontation took place.

Meanwhile, police say the investigation remains active, and they ask anyone who witnessed the series of events leading up to the dispute in the bar, or the confrontation outside, to contact police Detective Morgan Lovejoy at 792-5529, or call the department’s Crimeline at 624-4040.
