Front Door Agency launches Landlord Incentive Program
NASHUA – In a bold effort to address the region’s growing housing crisis, the Front Door Agency is launching a Landlord Incentive Program in partnership with the city’s Housing Trust Fund.
This initiative provides financial benefits and ongoing support to local landlords who rent to individuals and families at risk of homelessness.
With the vacancy rate in Greater Nashua at less than one percent and rents continuing to rise, the program seeks to both increase access to affordable housing and reduce barriers for low-income and voucher-holding tenants.
“This program is a powerful example of how partnerships can create real, lasting impact for people experiencing housing insecurity,” said Front Door CEO Maryse Wirbal. “By supporting both tenants and landlords, we’re helping build a stronger, more inclusive housing market.”
Landlords who participate may be eligible for the following incentives:
-$500 sign-on bonus for leasing to a high-risk or voucher-holding tenant
-up to $2,500 security deposit coverage
-up to $2,500 loss mitigation fund for damages or tenant abandonment
-up to $4,000 in renovation assistance to bring units up to code
“This program offers both financial protections and a clear pathway for landlords to make a positive community impact,” said Douglas Howard, Housing Stability Program manager at Front Door. “Together, we’re strengthening housing stability across Greater Nashua.”
Ongoing support will be offered to include case management for tenants, mediation services, property inspection coordination, and application processing assistance. All tenants supported through the program must complete the Ready to Rent education course – a landlord-informed curriculum designed to prepare renters for long-term success. Landlords may also take part in a Ready to Rent Landlord Training to strengthen collaboration and communication with tenants and housing providers.
The city has committed to greater oversight and partnership as part of this program – the first of its kind funded through the Housing Trust Fund.
“This Landlord Incentive Program is an innovative, cross-sector effort that reflects both national best practices and state-level priorities,” said LaTonya Muccioli, Nashua’s Housing Services officer. “It aligns with guidance from New Hampshire’s Governor’s Council on Housing Stability and all three Continuums of Care, and shows how landlord engagement, education and targeted incentives can create real pathways to permanent housing and support.”
