HUDSON — Police, fire and medical personnel responding to a report of a car crash involving a utility pole arrived to find the heavily damaged car and pole — but no driver.

But around 3 a.m., a couple of hours after the crash was reported, police got a call from a person at a convenience store. The caller told police a suspicious man was in the store asking for a ride from the area, police said.

Officers headed over to the store and spoke to the man, who they identified as Thomas Burlamachi, 23, of Dracut, Massachusetts, and who they promptly determined was the driver of the car involved in the crash who allegedly fled the scene.

Burlamachi was charged with one count of conduct after an accident, on which he was booked at police headquarters.

Burlamachi was uninjured in the crash, police said. They didn’t indicate whether bail was set, or if so, if he posted the bail.

The incident remains under investigation.

Police ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash and has any information to contact Officer Giomar Colon at 886-6011.
