‘Active investigation’ ongoing into the death two weeks ago of a Hudson infant

HUDSON — Representatives of the Attorney General’s office are working with Hudson police on the ongoing and “active” investigation into the circumstances leading up to the death two weeks ago of an infant boy.

The infant was just 15 days old at the time of his death, which occurred on June 30 — nine days after he was taken to a local hospital from his parents’ Hudson residence “in medical distress,” according to Michael Garrity, a spokesman for Attorney General John Formella.

Authorities launched the investigation June 22, the day Hudson police received a “law enforcement notification” from the state Division for Children, Youth and Families (DCYF).

The agency in the letter expressed “concerns regarding an infant admitted to a hospital in Massachusetts” the evening of June 21, according to Garrity’s statement.

Authorities said the boy’s parents live in an apartment on Burns Hill Road, but they didn’t provide a full address. Indications are the apartment is in one of the three multi-unit apartment buildings that make up the Burns Hill Apartments complex, which is between Lowell and Pelham roads.

Because the boy died in Massachusetts, a representative of the Massachusetts office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted the autopsy, which took place the day after he died.

Formella said in the statement that final results of the autopsy are not expected for several months, and that additional studies are pending.

The statement didn’t include any information regarding potential suspects in the case, but Formella said that based on “the information known to investigators at this time, there is no known danger to the public.”
