NASHUA – Veronica Ndungu, a nursing student at Nashua Community College, was among 200 students nationwide to receive a $1,000 Chime Workforce Scholarship.

Recipients are chosen for their “academic achievement and pursuit of career-focused education.”

Established last year, the scholarship is funded by the Chime Scholars Foundation and is administered by the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation.

“Receiving the Chime Scholarship means so much to me,” said Ndungu. “As a nursing student, this scholarship not only helps ease the financial burden of my education but also reminds me that the hard work and sacrifices I am making toward my goals are worth it. I am truly grateful to Phi Theta Kappa and Chime for investing in students like me and helping me continue working toward becoming a nurse.”

Nursing Department Chairwoman Lisa Gray said Ndungu has excelled as both a student and as a leader.

“Veronica has been actively fostering support for her peers by developing a small study group to help her and her peers succeed in this rigorous nursing program,” she said. “Her compassion and willingness to help others embody the values of nursing and make her a highly deserving recipient of this prestigious scholarship.”

Jeni Izuel, president of the Chime Scholars Foundation, said her organization gladly supports students who are working to fill jobs that are in demand.

“At the Chime Scholars Foundation, we believe that career and technical education opens doors to financial progress and long-term opportunity,” she said.

Amanda Karpinski Gorman, executive director of the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation, is also pleased to be part of the scholarship program.

“We are thrilled to launch this new program and award hardworking students with Chime Workforce Scholarships,” she said. “These scholarships support students pursuing career and technical education at two-year colleges and we look forward to seeing all they go on to accomplish.”
