Erlis Saladin, 32, last known address Brooklyn, New York

HUDSON — Police say an illegal left-hand turn prompted a patrol officer to pull over a white, 2022 Chevy express van shortly before 2 a.m. Friday, a stop that would lead to the arrest of the driver on several charges — including fugitive from justice.

Erlis Saladin, 32, last known address in Brooklyn, New York, started off by allegedly giving the officer a false name and date of birth, which led to a misdemeanor charge of disobeying an officer.

From there, the officers conducting the investigation determined that the van Saladin was driving had allegedly been stolen from New York City, which was confirmed through officers with the NYPD’s 25th precinct.

As a result of the on-scene and ongoing investigation, Saladin was additionally charged with Receiving Stolen Property, a Class B felony, and driving after suspension.

The fugitive charge stems from Saladin’s status as a wanted person out of the New Haven, Connecticut police department, according to Hudson police.

He was wanted on multiple charges, including allegations that he assaulted a pregnant woman, police said.

After Saladin was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters for booking, police had the van towed to headquarters for further investigation.

Saladin’s bail status wasn’t immediately known.
