NASHUA – After 26 years on Northeastern Boulevard, there are now plans to move Gate City Casino to the Sheraton Nashua Hotel.
The announcement comes nearly three years after the casino underwent a major renovation project which included the addition of 540 historic horse racing machines, a new poker room and DraftKings Sportsbook.
According to Delaware North, which owns Gate City and the Sheraton, the project would be divided into two phases: renovating the 337-room hotel as well as expanding the building’s footprint.
The first phase of the project would open a 41,000 square-foot gaming space and would be finished by the end of next year. The completion of the first phase would close Gate City’s current location and move operations to the Sheraton. The second phase, expected to be completed by 2030, would grow the gaming space to 93,000 square feet, which is nearly double the size of the building on Northwestern Boulevard.
There would also be a five-story parking garage to accommodate the expected increase in customer traffic.
The existing hotel would be rebranded as the Gate City Casino Hotel and its iconic castle-like appearance would remain the same.
The gaming floor itself would offer a vast array of 1,000 games as well as the traditional table games and slot machines. A few of the restaurant options would include a steakhouse, a sports bar and an Asian noodle bar. The project is also forecasted to create 290 jobs.
Specific details such as cost estimates, parking capacity and the results of a traffic study have not been released at this time. Delaware North received conditional approval in 2022 after acquiring Gate City and the Sheraton. The company will be requesting the necessary permits form the Planning Board at its meeting on May 7.
