CONCORD — Ricardo Ferguson’s recent selection as the U.S. Marshals Service’s New Hampshire Fugitive of the Week has paid off for the federal and state law enforcement authorities working to track him down.

According to Jeffrey White, supervisory deputy U.S. Marshal for New Hampshire, members of the agency’s New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force “worked closely with the New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force in an effort to track down Mr. Ferguson.”

White added that Ferguson, 36, whose last known address is in the Bronx, “had extensive ties with family, friends, and associates both in New York and in the Manchester area.”

NYPD officers located Ferguson in the area of Times Square in the early morning hours Friday. He was taken into custody without incident on the federal warrant that had been issued out of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

The warrant accuses Ferguson of committing homicide with a firearm, and of violating the Hobbs Act, which is a robbery that interferes with interstate commerce, according to White.

According to White, “a lot of time and effort was put into tracking down Ferguson, both in New Hampshire and New York, over the past few weeks.”

Indications are that Ferguson was in New Hampshire when he was named the Fugitive of the Week. As news of his status began appearing in various media, the New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force began receiving several tips pointing investigators toward locations in New Hampshire and New York, White said.

He added that the “intense pressure” on Ferguson “throughout this investigation, combined with the added publicity of being named Fugitive of the Week,” prompted Ferguson to flee New Hampshire and head toward New York City, White said.

By then, Ferguson’s friends and members of his family “had learned about these extremely serious accusations, and he was forced to stay on the streets of New York City,” White said.

Ferguson made his initial court appearance later Friday U.S. District Court in Manhattan, where the presiding judge ordered him held in jail.
