Southern NH Medical Center named one of America’s best maternity hospitals

By Staff | Apr 24, 2026

NASHUA – Southern New Hampshire Medical Center was recently recognized as one of America’s best maternity hospitals by Newsweek, in partnership with Statista, a global data and analytics firm.

The selection points to Southern New Hampshire Health’s coordinated, patient‒centered, innovative approach to care that supports families. To be chosen, a rigorous evaluation of the health system was completed that showed excellence in maternity care, including prenatal support, labor and delivery services and postpartum care.

“We are proud to be recognized for excellence in maternity care,” said Dr. Salvatore Vella, Jr., chief medical officer of Foundation Medical Partners. “Southern New Hampshire Health takes pride in caring for our neighbors from the day they’re born through every phase of their life.”

Newsweek’s selection criteria include these pillars which exemplify Southern NH Medical Center’s dedication to expert care:

-Hospital quality metrics: Focused on relevant maternity care indicators from multiple sources

-Patient experience: Gathered from public hospital survey data

-Reputation score: Healthcare professionals were asked to recommend leading maternity hospitals

Being part of Newsweek’s list highlights Southern New Hampshire Medical Center’s commitment to providing high‒quality, comprehensive care to those in Greater Nashua. This is especially important, since more than a third of U.S. counties are now considered maternity care deserts.

“Starting with a strong foundation sets up each member of our community to thrive,” said Dr. Kellie Motschmann, chairwoman of the hospital’s OB/GYN Department. “By delivering expert and compassionate maternity care, we help those around us create healthy building blocks for the future.”
