Legislative Softball Classic set for May 22
CONCORD – After a two-year COVID-related hiatus, the New Hampshire Legislative Softball Classic will return on Sunday, May 22, at 2 p.m. at the Anheuser Busch Softball Field in Merrimack, N.H.
This will be the fourth charity contest pitting Republican lawmakers (red team) against their Democratic counterparts (blue team). The three previous games raised approximately $30,000 to assist the homeless.
Beneficiaries of this year’s event include Liberty House in Manchester (supporting homeless and transitioning veterans), Haven (supporting victims of domestic violence), and the Nashua Center (for children and adults with disabilities). Managing the Red Team will be Rep. Michael Vose (R-Epping) while Rep. Jim Maggiore (D-North Hampton) will manage the Blue Team.
“The legislative softball game is all about charity and giving,” said Maggiore. “And I plan to also give our friends across the aisle a free picture of the Democrats hoisting the championship trophy!”
Rep. Mike Moffett (R-Loudon) was a prime mover behind the establishment of the Classic in 2017, in the wake of the shooting of several congressmen in Washington, D.C. who were practicing for the annual Congressional Baseball Game.
“These games have been great fun while bringing legislators together in common cause,” said Moffett. “And I’m confident that a big GOP win will be a harbinger of a red wave in 2022.”
For more information about the Classic or on how to donate to the above charities contact Rep. Peter Somssich (D-Portsmouth) at staterep27nh@gmail.com or Rep. Tim Lang (R-Sanbornton) at timothy.lang@leg.state.nh.us.
The Republicans were victorious in the first three Legislative Softball Classics.
