Nashua man with no fixed address facing several felony charges, three outstanding warrants
Joseph Carvalho, 39, of no fixed address, Nashua
NASHUA — Police Tuesday night took into custody Jonathan Carvalho, 39, a convicted felon who allegedly fired a handgun during an altercation the day before that occurred at 1 Fossa Ave, a short street off Main Street where the former Fossa Laundry plant operated for years.
Carvalho’s arrest at about 8:30 p.m. stemmed from detectives’ investigation of a report police received around 1 p.m. Monday of a “loud pop” noise at the Fossa Avenue apartment.
Police said officers spoke with “multiple individuals” who told them that a firearm had been discharged during an altercation inside the building.
Detectives developed Carvalho as a suspect in the incident, and determined that he was also allegedly armed with a knife when he allegedly assaulted the other man, police said.
Through a criminal records check, police learned that Carvalho is a convicted felon, which prohibits him from possessing a deadly weapon.
All told, the charges Carvalho is facing include two counts of felon in possession of deadly weapon, and one count each of reckless conduct with a deadly weapon and falsifying physical evidence, all Class B felonies.
Police said the three outstanding electronic bench warrants stemmed from Carvalho’s alleged failure to appear in court on prior misdemeanor and violation-level offenses.
He was booked on the charges and held in police custody pending arraignment, which he waived on Wednesday. Whether Carvalho was ordered held in jail after waiving arraignment or if bail was set wasn’t immediately known.
He is scheduled to appear in court June 29 for a dispositional conference.
Police ask anyone who may have additional information on the incident to call the department’s Crime Line at 589-1665.
