NASHUA — A ranch-style house in the midst of renovations sustained moderate damage late Friday night, the result of a fire that broke out around 11 p.m., officials said.
Nashua Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Bill Atkinson said the department received one call reporting flames coming from the front of 88 Beauview Ave., prompting the dispatch of a first-alarm assignment of three engines, a ladder truck, the deputy chief and Nashua police to the scene.
First on the scene was Engine 1 out of the Amherst Street station, and upon arrival the company commander, Lt. Dave Leblond, reported heavy fire coming from the front of the house.
Leblond requested a working fire assignment, according to Atkinson, which brought an additional engine and ladder to the scene.
Crews stretched two hose lines to knock down the flames on the exterior of the wood-frame, single family home, Atkinson said.
Once entry was made through the front door, crews encountered heavy fire on the first floor and in an attic space, forcing them to make an aggressive attack to contain the flames.
While fighting the flames, crews discovered a hole in the floor, which resulted from the fire burning through the floor into the basement, Atkinson said.
A third hose line was stretched into the basement to attack the flames there, and a short time later the blaze was declared under control.
Searches of the dwelling were negative, Atkinson said, meaning that nobody was found inside when crews searched the entire house. It also appears nobody was there when the fire broke out.
Atkinson said representatives of the city Fire Marshal’s office were called to the scene, and they are conducting an investigation into the cause and origin of the blaze.
Nobody was injured, Atkinson added.
City property records list the owner of the house as a property management company in Bedford.
