NASHUA — Ahead of the start of its spring semester, the Rivier Institute for Senior Education (RISE) has scheduled a virtual information session for later this month that will include instructions on how to use virtual-learning programs such as Zoom, which allows participants to “attend” classes remotely.
The session is scheduled for 11 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Jan. 27. Both new and returning members of the RISE program are invited to take part.
To register for the session, go to www.rivier.edu/rise. Each registrant will receive an email containing the link to Zoom before Jan. 27.
“Zoom is easy to use, and RISE will provide support for individuals who might be hesitant to participate using this format,” said RISE spokeswoman Irene Holland.
“Zoom allows a continuation of lifelong learning and provides a way to connect with other RISE members.”
Meanwhile, the 5-week spring semester that begins March 7 runs through April 8. Sessions are one hour long, and take place between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Seniors age 55 and up can choose from more than 35 courses. Of those, 29 courses are online and 7 are conducted on campus.
There are no learning prerequisites, no tests and no credits earned. Membership fee is $75.00 for one or more courses.
Course topics include literature, history, music, fine arts, technology, philosophy, self-help, nutrition, environment, personal safety, personal growth, genealogy, writing, politics and the world, health, arts and crafts, enrichment, film, and yoga.
Additional information on the courses, as well as details on how to become a RISE member and register for courses, can be found at www.rivier.edu/rise or by calling 897-8623.
The registration period for the spring semester opens Friday, Jan. 28 and closes at the end of the day on Monday, Feb. 14.
The RISE program, now in its 25th year, is tailored for “learning in retirement.” It is affiliated with the Road Scholar Institute, the nonprofit founded in 1975 as a travel and experiential learning organization.
