Brian Martel, 38, of 18 Templeton Court, Merrimack

MERRIMACK — A resident of Templeton Court was ordered jailed on preventive detention following a confrontation with police, during which the man allegedly aimed a firearm in the direction of two officers before fleeing on foot, police said.

Eventually tracked down and arrested as he walked out of someone else’s house was Brian Martel, 38, of 18 Templeton Court, who police say was taken into custody without further incident.

The charges Martel faces include two counts of criminal threatening and one count of reckless conduct, Class B felonies, and two counts of resisting arrest or detention and one count of disorderly conduct, Class A misdemeanors, according to police.

He was booked on the charges and ordered held on preventive detention, and according to his Superior Court case file that order was continued pending his next court appearance, which is a dispositional conference scheduled for Feb. 24.

The series of incidents that led to Martel’s arrest began shortly before 10 the night of Jan. 5, when police were called to a local residence for a report of “a suicidal male who had made threats to harm himself,” police said.

As officers arrived, a man, later identified as Martel, came out of the residence, “was confrontational with officers,” and “announced he had a gun,” police said.

At one point during the confrontation, police said, Martel allegedly displayed a gun “and pointed it in the direction” of an officer.

Martel “immediately ran back into his residence,” then moments later, police said, he left the residence through a different door and took off on foot.

As he was fleeing, police said, Martel allegedly pointed his gun in the direction of another officer.

Police began searching the area for Martel, receiving assistance with the hunt from neighboring law enforcement agencies, police said.

Officers eventually learned that Martel allegedly entered another residence in the area, police said. He was exiting that residence as officers arrived, and he was taken into custody.
