SALEM, Massachusetts — A 33-year-old woman was reported in critical condition at a Boston hospital late Tuesday, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head in what police are calling an attempted murder-suicide outside an industrial complex in this North Shore community.

Also late Tuesday, according to various news sources in Greater Boston and the North Shore area, police identified the alleged shooter as Richard Lorman, 55, a resident of Wilton, New Hampshire. Police said he apparently shot the woman then fatally shot himself.

The woman had yet to be identified, but investigators indicated she is also a resident of New Hampshire, but they didn’t specify a town or city.

Police said Lorman and the woman apparently knew each other, but they hadn’t determined the nature of their relationship.

They did say that they believe the woman worked at a sail-making business in a building that’s part of an industrial complex, and that Lorman was waiting in the parking lot for her to leave work for the day.

The shootings took place near 3 Technology Way, police said. According to the website of the Salem News newspaper, both Lorman and the woman were found lying on the ground outside the building by arriving police and medical personnel.
