Chamber names Ed Lecius as 2021 Citizen of Year

NASHUA – The Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce recently announced that Edward John “Ed” Lecius, has been selected as the Chamber’s 2021 Citizen of the Year. Lecius will be honored at the Chamber’s 93rd annual Gala on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at the Event Center – Courtyard by Marriott in Nashua.

Organized each year by Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce, Lecius was selected by a committee of past Citizen of the Year recipients in reflection of his extensive community leadership and continual devotion to the betterment of Nashua.

Lecius is a native and lifelong resident of Greater Nashua and began his career at WSMN radio station. In 1983, Lecius stepped away from radio to work for Gov. John H. Sununu. He then served in the administration of President George H.W. Bush.

When he returned to Nashua, Lecius became the president and general manager for WMVU (formerly WOTW and now WGHM). When the station was sold in 1997, Lecius joined the staff of the Nashua Chamber of Commerce as director of programs until joining the Nashua Police Department in 2000 as its community policing coordinator. He retired in 2020.

Lecius has received many awards and commendations from the city of Nashua. For many years, Lecius has been active in the city of Nashua, serving as the chairman of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board for 13 years; serving as chairman of the Fire Commission for five years; and serving 20 years as the community police coordinator for the city of Nashua. Lecius also been an active member of the Nashua Lions Club for 50 years.

Currently, Lecius is the chairman of the supervisory committee of Triangle Credit Union, and appointed by Gov. Chris Sununu also serves on the N.H. Police Standards and Training Council.

Ed exemplifies the high level of integrity and accomplishment of his predecessors as Citizens of the Year, and it will be a true honor to recognize him at this year’s annual gala.”

Presented by Eversource, the 93rd annual Gala and Citizen of the Year Award event is the largest gathering of the business community in the Greater Nashua region, and a celebration of the men and women who lead our businesses, large and small.

Over the years, this event has hosted 50,000 attendees and honored 68 Citizens of the Year. Each year the gala committee organizes a spectacular event with past themes such as: Mardi Gras, the Arts, International Culture Around the World, the Roaring 20s, Mad Men, Las Vegas, Vintage 1991 and NASCAR! And this year, our gala is poised to continue that grand tradition with The Sky is the Limit!
