Nashua Community College launches new fully remote big data developer program

By Staff | Sep 15, 2021

NASHUA – Nashua Community College is launching a new 26-week fully remote Big Data Developer program geared toward working students who wish to upskill quickly. The first cohort began Tuesday, September 7, is online and meets once a week. It is designed to meet the workforce demands of hiring companies by introducing students to the technologies and methodologies used by real world data engineers.

“This program is ideal for the person who would like to build upon their existing code and database skills to work towards a career as a Big Data Developer,” said Kim Eckenrode, CTE Computer Training Coordinator at NCC.

This fast-paced program will cover a breadth of technologies, including Python programming, Hadoop and cloud-based services in Amazon Web Services (AWS). The student will also be introduced to such methods as data wrangling, munging, ingesting and modeling for analytics.

The fully remote training is designed to introduce students to the technologies and methodologies that are in high demand. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a projected 22% job growth for this category of software developers for 2019-2029. Upon completion, the successful student will be prepared for an entry-level position as a data engineer, Python programmer or business intelligence developer.

Designed to fit around a work schedule, the part-time training has one remote meeting per week in the evenings balanced with self-paced work and weekly, remote mentor meetings for additional support. The next Big Data Developer cohort is scheduled for February 16, 2022.
