MANCHESTER — A police spokeswoman on Tuesday announced that bank-robbery suspect Michael Wells, 55, last known address in Manchester, has been captured following a week-long manhunt that ended at a Hampton Inn in Waltham, Massachusetts.

Wells, who at the time of his arrest was on “escape status” stemming from allegations he walked away from the Calumet Transitional Housing facility earlier in August, is accused of robbing a TD Bank branch in Nashua on Aug. 25, two weeks after he allegedly robbed the Citizens Bank at 1550 Elm St., and a day before he allegedly held up St. Mary’s Bank, 207 Hooksett Road, both in Manchester.

In each of the three robberies, police said, the suspect handed a teller a note, claimed to have a gun, and walked off with cash. Each time, no weapon was shown.

Following his arrest, Wells, who is also a Tier III registered sex offender, was held in Massachusetts on a parole violation.

He is expected to be returned to New Hampshire to face the new charges once the parole violation matter is dealt with, police said.

A statement issued by police following the Aug. 26 robbery identified Wells as a suspect, and asked the public to contact them with any additional information.

They also offered a cash reward — the amount of which wasn’t provided — for information leading to an arrest and conviction. The reward wasn’t mentioned in Tuesday’s updated statement.
