Bliss & Balance opens on Main Street in Nashua

By George Pelletier - Milford Bureau Chief | Jun 26, 2021

NASHUA – Whether you deny it or fight it, health and vanity are part of our human makeup.

And for those unacquainted with the newly opened Bliss & Balance, 100 Main St., Suite 3, the upscale med-spa offers a bevy of treatments ranging from bipolar disorder and skin therapies, to body shaping and I.V. hydration.

Bliss & Balance is open by appointment only.

The staff, three registered nurse anesthesia providers, Diane Soem, Judy Baker and Karen Orino, work with clients with specialized treatments and services specific to this med-spa.

“I’ve been practicing for 18 years,” Orino said. Baker has been practicing for 35 years and Soem, 12 years. The three women knew each other professionally and the idea began as a medical-based spa which would offer I.V. hydration and medical treatments via a holistic approach.

Soem said the three just “jumped on it and it happened.”

Bliss & Balance opened last month and is already attracting clients who want to improve some aspect of their physical appearance or mental attitude. Word of mouth and social media has driven in more business.

“It’s starting to pick up,” the three women said in unison.

“The location is a little bit challenging,” Orino said of their modern and beautiful digs at 100 Main behind Glorious Possibilities. “Our ‘A’ frame sign out front has attracted people – especially with the summer traffic walking down Main Street. But it’s also word of mouth. And we’ve been advertising on social media, Facebook and Instagram.”

Intravenous rejuvenation may sound simple, but the benefits that a person reaps from these sessions is innumerous.

“Some people just feel run down,” Baker said. “We have different combinations with different doses of vitamins. Everybody’s lifestyle is so busy nowadays. People can come in, listen to music, get hydrated. Everybody runs dehydrated to some degree.”

One popular treatment is the Myer’s Cocktail- which contains vitamin B12, complex B vitamins, Magnesium, Calcium and vitamin C.

The women acknowledge that with their own busy schedules, it’s hard for them to stay hydrated while they’re working.

“People in medicine typically are dehydrated,” Orino said.

“We’re all aware of that,” Baker said. “When we’re working, it’s impossible to find the time to do so.”

“And if we drink to rehydrate, then we still have to use the bathroom,” Soem said. “We can’t just leave the patient.”

B&B’s intravenous hydration treatments range from $50 to $250, and a treatment lasts as long as it takes for the fluid to enter the body.

“We offer one for immunity,” Orino shared. “We have one for anti-aging.”

“And we have one for brain fog,” Soem added. “The list goes on and on. It really depends on the patient. They tell us how they’re feeling and we make recommendations.”

Orino said that some people come in very dehydrated and they might have smaller veins, which takes longer for the I.V. to work.

“They typically take about a half hour,”Orino said. “And there are other things that they can get done in the meantime. They can have a facial or other treatments that can happen at the same time.”

Skin tightening is a popular treatment at B&B for men and for women.

“It’s done through radio frequency,” Soem said. “You can enhance your looks and feel better.”

Orino said it’s a bipolar radio frequency device that is used in a series of treatments because a patient needs to allow the skin to regenerate the collagen and elastic bonds.

“Optimally, a patient would require six treatments,” Orino said. “And they’re usually about three to four weeks apart, depending on the client’s age and so-forth.

The machine is a multi-modal device and can be used for skin tightening, body contouring, and I.P.L., which does hair removal and pigmentation. It’s also effective for acne and acne scars.

As trained providers, Soem, Baker and Orino are certified to do the treatments that B&B offers. That includes training with the actual manufacturer of the different devices that are used.

“We had to take courses,” Baker said. “And then we had to get certified for each separate procedure.”

Soem said that the most popular treatment, especially as bathing suit weather is here, is body contouring.

“We can contour your arms, your legs and your thighs,” Soem listed. “And your stomach. That’s the main one because people want to get in their swimsuits. A lot of our clients see immediate results and they’ve all been happy with them.”

“It helps with lymphatic drainage,” Orino added. “It helps to increase the metabolic rate in the tissue that we’re working on as well.”

Soem said it also increases your basal metabolic rate.

“The more you exercise, the more you’re enhancing the treatment,” Soem said. “And again, hydration is important.”

Nutrition plays a vital role in a client’s daily activity after receiving a treatment or procedure.

“Clients don’t necessarily bring it up,” Baker said, “But we talk to them about the importance of nutrition. And we stress that people have to hydrate well before they come in for a procedure.”

“Usually clients can feel the results and start changing their diets,” Soem said. “It provides the client with some motivation.”

Procedures for men include GainsWave for erectile dysfunction.

“This procedure optimizes sexual health,” Orino said. “Currently we offer this procedure to the male clientele, but soon we’re going to be offering it to the female clientele as well.”

GainsWave is the premium brand of extracorporeal shockwave therapy for E.D. Treatment is all-natural and clinically proven using high-frequency shockwaves to enhance male sexual function, performance, and overall health.

“It’s been shown to be very effective,” Orino stated, “in maintenance but also in optimizing sexual health.”

Men also come into B&B for facials, body contouring and I.V. treatments.

Vanity, it’s worth mentioning, shouldn’t have to take a back seat when it comes to treatments for either men or women.

“Some people are on the fence about trying certain treatments,” Soem said. “And I explain it to them and suggest that they try it. And they’re hooked. People spend hours exercising and they can’t shake the weight. Exercising doesn’t give them the immediate results that body shaping or contouring can provide instantly.”

“Plus at a certain age, your basal metabolic rate does slow,” Orino said. “This is kind of a little jump-start.”

Soem said that body contouring is also more affordable now.

“Celebrities all do it,” Soem said. “And now people are more open about doing it themselves.”

All procedures provided at B&B are non-invasive and are not covered by insurance.

The med-spa also provides platelet-rich plasma, as doctors and nurses have learned that the body has the ability to heal itself.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy use injections of a concentration of a patient’s own platelets to accelerate the healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints. In this way, PRP injections use each individual patient’s own healing system to improve musculoskeletal problems.
