MERRIMACK – A 25-year-old local man who, back in January, was arrested twice within a couple of hours on OUI, criminal threatening and disorderly conduct offenses, is now facing charges accusing him of brandishing a knife and threatening to kill two members of his family, police said.

Shain Sargent, last known address of 8 Danbury Drive in Merrimack, was arrested early Wednesday morning in the backyard of a local residence by officers responding to a report of a domestic disturbance involving a knife.

The officers while en route received information that the person who called police had been threatened with a knife, and the suspect was in the process of trying to crawl out of a window, police said.

Upon arrival the officers found the suspect, later identified as Sargent, in the backyard, having apparently been successful in his attempt to crawl out of the window.

The officers handcuffed, and detained, Sargent while speaking with the two alleged victims, who told the officers that Sargent, while holding the knife in his hand, allegedly threatened to kill them.

Police said Sargent then turned his attention to a door, which he allegedly damaged by stabbing it with the knife.

Sargent was booked on the charges and transported to Valley Street jail in Manchester pending a court appearance, which was scheduled for later Wednesday morning in Hillsborough County Superior Court South in Nashua.

As for the incident in January, Sargent was charged with one count each of OUI, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, criminal threatening and disorderly conduct, according to a press release police issued at the time.

Police said it was an argument between family members that drew officers to the residence, the address of which they didn’t provide, early the afternoon of Jan. 15.

Police said one of the people involved got into a vehicle and drove off before officers arrived, but others at the residence identified him as Sargent, who didn’t have permission to drive the vehicle, police added.

A short time later and not very far away, an officer spotted the vehicle and pulled it over, and while speaking with the driver identified him as Sargent, police said.

The officer “noted signs of intoxication and impairment that are consistent with the consumption of alcoholic beverages,” police added.

The officer arrested Sargent without incident on the OUI charge, and transported him to police headquarters for booking.

Sargent was later released on personal recognizance bail, but when a person described only as a member of his family arrived at police headquarters to pick him up, Sargent allegedly began threatening the family member, triggering a disturbance that played out in the station in front of officers, police said.

Officers promptly quelled the disturbance, then arrested Sargent for the second time within hours, this time charging him with one count each of criminal threatening and disorderly conduct.

The status of that case wasn’t immediately available.
