PELHAM – Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Saturday evening’s two-car crash on Bridge Street, in which a young couple from Pelham and a woman from Winchester, Massachusetts all sustained serious injuries.
The collision destroyed the two vehicles, which police identified as a Honda Fit and a Volkswagen Jetta, both of which ended up in the road blocking both travel lanes, police said.
Police, firefighters and medical personnel arrived at the scene about 7:30 p.m. to find the driver of the Honda, Maura Oray, 32, in her vehicle, and likewise, found the driver of the Jetta, Jacen Boyden, 18, and his passenger, Emmy Bedard, 20, both of Pelham, in their car.
Fire rescue crews and medical personnel tended to each of them, eventually removing them from their vehicles and bringing them to awaiting ambulances.
Boyden and Bedard were transported to Lawrence General Hospital, police said, while Oray was airlifted to Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston.
The crash occurred in the area of 671 Bridge St. (Route 38), which is between Balcom Road and Main Street in the eastern part of town.
Police said they closed a section of Bridge Street for about an hour to allow crews to remove the vehicles.
