Santa’s Greeley Park visit postponed to Sunday

By Dean Shalhoup - Senior Staff Reporter | Dec 4, 2020

NASHUA – Although Santa Claus is certainly used to snow, it’s the potential for a sloppy mix of snow and rain that caused the jolly old elf to postpone this weekend’s Nashua visit from Saturday to Sunday.

“Due to the incoming weather on Saturday, Santa has decided to move his Greeley Park visit to Sunday,” said Jeff DiSalvo, a program coordinator with the city’s Parks & Recreation Department, presumably after speaking with Santa for his latest update.

Everything else remains the same: Santa will be stationed at the Greeley Park Bandshell from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, where he will preside over a “COVID-compliant,” “socially-distanced” meet-and-greet.

The annual holiday season event, called “Santa in the Park,” is known to draw a good-sized turnout, and although this year’s “might look a little different” than usual, “it should be a lot of fun for all our young residents,” DiSalvo said.

Pint-sized visitors can get their photo taken, then proceed across the bandshell stage to receive a gift and a candy cane.

They can also bring along their Christmas list, which they can put into Santa’s special mailbox.

The necessary precautions include wearing masks or facial coverings while waiting in line, but kids can remove the mask when they get their photo taken, but the must put it back on immediately, DiSalvo said.

He added that social distancing will be in place in order to “help make this a fun and safe event for everyone.”
