NASHUA – The woman driving an older model Ford Taurus that struck and took down a metal utility pole on Spit Brook Road Monday morning was handcuffed and led away by police, but it wasn’t immediately known if she was charged, or if so what the charges are.

Police, firefighters and ambulance personnel were called to Spit Brook Road near the entrance to Motel 6 about 9 a.m., and upon arrival found the pole down and the damaged Taurus sitting on the side of the road.

The vehicle reportedly veered off the right side of the roadway before striking the pole. Police were investigating the circumstances.

While firefighters worked to mitigate the resulting electrical hazards, medical personnel evaluated the driver, who wasn’t immediately identified. She declined medical treatment at the scene.

A short time later, police placed the driver in handcuffs and transported her from the scene.

The car, which was the only one involved, was towed from the scene. Utility crews were summoned to the scene to replace the pole.

One lane of Spit Brook Road was closed for a time, but no major traffic delays resulted.
