Pappas continues ‘Serving the People’ tour with events in Merrimack and Derry

By Staff | Sep 3, 2020

MERRIMACK – On Tuesday U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas (NH-01) hosted events in Merrimack and Derry to discuss his work in Congress to invest in safe, sustainable infrastructure that works for Granite Staters. Chris held a discussion in Merrimack with clean water advocates to discuss his work to protect our water, and toured the rail trail in Derry and discussed the Moving Forward Act and the critical investments it would make in New Hampshire’s infrastructure.

“Our infrastructure touches every facet of our lives,” said Congressman Chris Pappas. “Town officials, small business owners, and the community agree – investing in local infrastructure helps support the economy and quality of life. I’ll keep fighting to ensure New Hampshire has access to clean water, funding to expand our statewide rail trail system, and the resources we need to build safe and resilient infrastructure.”

Chris is a leader in the fight for clean water, fighting for better standards, increased investment, and a stronger national focus on the issue of PFAS contamination. In addition to passing an amendment to regulate PFAS under the Clean Water Act and hold polluters accountable, he led a bipartisan group of lawmakers to introduce the PFAS Registry Act, joined a bipartisan, bicameral group of legislators to introduce the VET PFAS Act to extend VA benefits to veterans who have been impacted by PFAS contamination on military installations throughout the country, and secured a commitment from EPA administrator Dave Ross to take swift action on PFAS contamination.

Chris helped craft the Moving Forward Act as a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. The Moving Forward Act will deliver more than $1.3 billion for New Hampshire’s transportation infrastructure, a more than 30% increase in federal funding. The bill includes several priorities of Chris’s that will help move New Hampshire’s economy forward: legislation to create a federal grant program to build bike and pedestrian infrastructure such as rail trails, increased funding for New Starts and other programs that can support commuter rail expansion, and policies that will result in more resilient infrastructure in the face of a rapidly changing environment.
