Nashua businesses begin to reopen
NASHUA – Great weather eased its way into the Gate City on Monday, as area businesses began to reopen under the Governor Sununu’s Stay-at-Home 2.0 order.
Hours earlier on Monday, the governor held a news conference defining the that outdoor activities, including outdoor dining, were permitted.
Amusement and water parks, boat cruises and tourist trains were not included and will closed for the time being.
In downtown Nashua, many residents sought the sunshine as they dined along Main St. Restaurants that were open with outdoor dining included, the Odd Fellows Brewing Co., Nashua Gaaurantsrden, San Francisco Kitchen, and Casa Vieja Mexican Grill.
Customers at San Francisco Kitchen were enjoying their beers, and just being outside.
“This is what we’ve been waiting for,” said Kim Durocher of Nashua. “We still need to be safe but everybody is keeping the proper distance I think.”
Still, there was a sense of awkwardness at some establishments, raising the question are restaurants following social distancing guidelines?
Yes and no.
Fratello’s on Main St., was booked solid, taking reservations for their dozen or so tables that they had situated outside while observing physical distancing rules. The restaurant is currently serving dinner 4 p.m.- 8 p.m., with the last reservations being åaccepted at 7:30 p.m.
Hudson’s John Morrison said he and his wife Becky have been craving Fratello’s cuisine and were excited but cautious about dining outside their home for the first time in months.
“We have been looking forward to this so long,” said Becky Morrison. “The weather cleared and we’re taking advantage of it.”
At some other restaurants and bars, social distancing rules seemed to be on the lenient side.
“It’s no different than just walking down the street,” said Al Busciani of Dunstable. “We’re sitting at a table but we’re not on top of each other.”
Just doors down, Michael Buckley’s MT’s Local, and his other eatery Surf across on Main, are set to reopen on May 19, with outdoor dining and curbside pickup. With reference to outdoor dining, they state on their Facebook page that seating will be done by reservation only and those reservations must be made after 12 p.m. for the day that you intend to come in. Seating will be from 3-8 p.m. and it’s weather-dependent. They also state that walk-ins will not be accepted during the first few weeks.
Over on Northeastern Blvd., Boston Billiard Club & Casino’s patio opening was highly anticipated. For now, there will not be any billiards or gambling, just outdoor dining.
“We’re definitely confident that it will be a place people want to go,” Director of Marketing Kevin McMahon told the Telegraph last week.
