NASHUA – Friday the 13th may not be considered a lucky day for some, but Catherine Foley of Londonderry was anything but unlucky when she received a call from The Telegraph on Friday.

Friday was when the newspaper drew the winning entry in its annual Wild Wednesday contest, and this year’s grand-prize winner was Foley, much to her surprise.

“Are you serious?” she asked when returning the newspaper’s call Friday afternoon. “I won. I just can’t believe it!”

The postal worker will receive $500 and a holiday-themed gift basket.

The entry forms were available in The Telegraph’s Thanksgiving edition, the largest newspaper of the year. This year the paper had more than $500,000 in coupons and savings offers featured in the holiday publication.

Foley said she and her oldest daughter have an annual tradition of purchasing The Telegraph to preview Black Friday sales. In fact, it was her daughter her picked up the copies this year and did so at The Telegraph’s 110 Main St. location in downtown Nashua, she said.

The Telegraph provides free curbside service the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, offering complimentary cookies and coffee to those who drive up to purchase their special early edition copy hot of the presses.

“It’s our biggest delivery day of the year, and we are as excited as our customers about the Thanksgiving edition. It’s always full of great savings opportunities, and we consider it an honor that so many families include us as part of their holiday traditions,” Publisher Heather Goodwin Henline said.

Telegraph employee Adam Buskey, who also was dressed in a Santa suit as one of the Jolly Old Elf’s helpers during the Wild Wednesday promotion, drew the winning entry Friday.

“This is great, just great,” Foley said, noting she plans to use her winnings to “take the family on a mini vacation.”
