NASHUA – Kenneth Bell faces multiple charges, including second-degree assault, in the aftermath of his standoff with Nashua police and SWAT team officers at 16 Shedds Ave. Thursday evening.

According to witnesses, Bell, 43, left the scene in an ambulance after officers shot him with bean bags to disable him.

Official police accounts state that at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to 16 Shedds Ave. for a domestic disturbance. Authorities allege Bell strangled an individual known to him to the point the victim’s breathing was impeded. He also allegedly assaulted another victim known to him by striking that individual with his hand. Both victims sustained minor injuries.

It is also alleged that while the incident was unfolding, Bell discharged a firearm into the ceiling of the residence with others in close proximity to him. No one was injured while the firearm discharged.

When police attempted to take Bell into custody, he allegedly refused to comply with officers. While police attempted to apprehend Bell, residents were encouraged to remain inside of their residences for their own safety. Eventually, Bell was brought into custody, as officers arrested him at approximately 6:48 p.m.

Bell is charged with two counts of second-degree assault-domestic violence, reckless conduct-domestic violence, simple assault-domestic violence and resisting arrest. He was held at the Hillsborough County Department of Corrections and refused bail, pending arraignment.
