LONDONDERRY – A state liquor store will be built alongside the third Red Arrow Diner at a new plaza near Exit 5 of Interstate 93.

A 9,000-square-foot New Hampshire Liquor & Wine Outlet is planned as part of the new Londonderry Travel Plaza at the intersection of Route 28 and I-93. It will have a 24-hour Red Arrow Diner, convenience store and 19 fueling stations, including diesel fuel and a truck center.

Construction is slated to begin in July, with an anticipated opening date at the end of 2014, according to a release from the New Hampshire Liquor Commission.

The Londonderry Travel Plaza is being developed by Aranco Oil Co., of Concord.

The new outlet will be similar to the recently opened Manchester and Bedford stores.

Roughly 100,000 vehicles pass Exit 5 each day, according to the state Department of Transportation.

“Over the past four years, the New Hampshire Liquor Commission has been intensely focused on the strategic relocation and renovation of stores in an effort to maximize profitability,” said Joseph Mollica, chairman of the Liquor Commission.

“Sales this fiscal year are outpacing last year by $17.5 million, and five stores have experienced sales increases of $1 million compared to last year.”

Since 2012, the New Hampshire Liquor Commission has renovated or relocated 15 stores, including those in Bedford, Merrimack, Milford and Nashua.

The travel plaza marks the third Red Arrow Diner location in New Hampshire, after the original in Manchester and the second in Milford.

“While it never occurred to me at the conception that there would someday be three Red Arrow Diner locations, demand has grown, which has allowed this exciting endeavor to occur,” Red Arrow Diner owner Carol Lawrence said.
