Litchfield’s Noel’s Tree Farm to provide official state Christmas trees
LITCHFIELD – Pine trees from Noel’s Tree Farm in Litchfield have been chosen to decorate the outside of the Statehouse and Bridges House this season.
It is a tradition for Granite State Christmas tree growers, through the New Hampshire Christmas Tree Promotional Board, to provide trees for decoration at these two buildings in Concord. The Bridges House is the site of numerous official functions in the state capital.
Noel’s Tree Farm is owned and operated by Paul and Catherine Lemire. Paul said they donated two trees for the capital’s outdoor display. They are Fraser Firs, one standing between 9 and 11 feet tall and the other measuring between 10 and 11 feet in height. On Dec. 19, the Lemires will head to Concord for the Governor’s Council meeting and will be recognized for their donation. Last year, Gov. John Lynch and his wife traveled to Noel’s Tree Farm and purchased three Christmas trees for their home, Paul said.
The business is named after Paul Lemire’s father, who was born on Christmas Day and appropriately named Noel. They planted their first Christmas tree two decades ago and have been selling them for the past 12 years. The Lemires have a 9-acre farm that is home to roughly 8,000 trees. Varieties include Balsam, Fraser, Canaan and Concolor Fir trees.
Each season, the couple sells about 2,200 Christmas trees and 400 decorated wreaths. Of the trees sold, many go to local residents to decorate their homes. But others head to other growers for resale.
The farm offers other seasonal activities on weekends. They include free hayrides, hot chocolate, a petting farm, a fire pit where customers can roast marshmallows and children can visit with Santa. Group activities are also offered, including planting Christmas trees and sessions to make your own wreath.
The Lemires are members of the New Hampshire/
Vermont Christmas Tree Association. Paul Lemire currently serves on the board of directors.
