ABINGTON, Massachusetts — The intensive search for Elijah “Eli” Lewis, the 5-year-old boy last seen a month ago at his Merrimack home, shifted earlier today to a largely wooded area off Chestnut Street in the northern Plymouth County town of Abington.
Numerous law enforcement resources from New Hampshire and Massachusetts were deployed to the area of 500 Chestnut St., which runs along the northern border of the Ames Nowell State Park, after authorities received information that they were able to corroborate, according to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz.
Where that information came from was not disclosed by Cruz, who addressed media representatives at a 4 p.m. press conference at the scene.
Roughly 30-40 members of law enforcement agencies, including Merrimack and Abington police, New Hampshire and Massachusetts state police, two helicopters from its Air Wing, and a specially trained search team plus K-9 teams from Massachusetts and Rhode Island, were working at the scene through this evening.
Today’s search comes two days after Elijah’s mother, Danielle Dauphinais, and her companion, Joseph Stapf, appeared in Superior Court in Nashua after being extradited from New York City’s Bronx borough, where they were arrested on witness tampering and endangering the welfare of a child charges.
