Shaheen shares Thanksgiving message

U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen

MANCHESTER – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) shared the following message with Granite State families ahead of Thanksgiving:

“As we prepare for Thanksgiving tomorrow, our tables and celebrations will likely look different this year. Our country and communities here in New Hampshire have been through so much over the last nine months and we’re still fighting through the challenges of the pandemic. My heart goes out to the families of Granite Staters who will experience their first holiday season without loved ones lost to COVID-19, and my thoughts are with those who are currently battling this terrible virus.

While the way we celebrate Thanksgiving looks different, the sentiment of the holiday is the same: showing thanks for family and friends who make our lives whole, giving back to those who are less fortunate and hoping for a brighter year ahead. Thanksgiving is a time for us to reflect on the year that is coming to a close and look ahead to the next in anticipation of new beginnings. This year more than any other, I look back on 2020 with such pride for how our communities have rallied together to push through these difficult times – from the teams of Granite Staters who sewed masks, to businesses that produced hand sanitizer, to teachers who went above and beyond to ensure their students could continue their education remotely, to frontline health care workers who’ve risked their own safety to care for those who are ill and so much more. With all that we as a state and nation have been through, the very best in us has shone through and pushed us forward.

As I look ahead to next year, I have faith that the same sense of community that has helped us in the darkest hours of 2020 will help get us to the other side of this crisis. I believe in the resilience of our community and enduring commitment to help each other through these challenging days. Thank you to everyone who is doing their part to protect one another. If we do this right and listen to our public health experts and officials encouraging us to maintain social distance, wear masks and follow other guidelines to flatten the curve, then hopefully this time next year we’ll be able to celebrate around the dinner table together.

From my family to yours, wishing you and your loved ones a safe and happy Thanksgiving.”
