CONCORD – Today, $45 million of the CAREs Act Coronavirus Relief Funds were allocated to New Hampshire’s public schools.

House Finance Chair Mary Jane Wallner (D-Concord) and Senate Finance Chair Lou D’Allesandro (D-Manchester), who both serve on the Governor’s Office for Economic Relief and Recovery (GOFERR) Legislative Advisory Board, released the following statement:

“Our schools took on a significant financial burden in their efforts to provide a safe learning environment for our students with the understanding that FEMA would provide reimbursement. When FEMA reneged on their promise, our schools were left with an unbudgeted gap in their funding. Earlier this summer, the Legislative Advisory Board began the work of reallocating the remaining $36 million from the Emergency Broadband Expansion Program, understanding that cases would rise as schools reopened. Today, our local communities are facing outbreaks like the ones seen at Pinkerton Academy that could have been aided by an earlier distribution of these funds by the executive branch. While this is a step in the right direction, more will need to be done to keep our students safe.”
