Carson, Birdsell Frustrated by Exit 4A Construction Delay
CONCORD – The New Hampshire Department of Transportation announced that they would not be building Exit 4A on I-93 as scheduled. The project has been pushed back to a 2026 completion date due to a lack of funding. Senator Sharon Carson (R-Londonderry) and Senator Regina Birdsell (R-Hampstead) issued the following statements:
“It is disappointing that this project is being pushed back another two years even after receiving reassurance from the department that this project would be completed as scheduled,” said Senator Sharon Carson (R-Londonderry). “Businesses have relocated and expanded along 93 with the belief that these critical infrastructure projects would be completed in a timely manner and this delay will hurt one of the fastest growing regions of our state. Even though there has been a disappointing setback, I will continue to work with my colleagues in the legislature and the Department of Transportation to get this project done.”
“While I opposed increasing the gas tax in 2014, it was signed by then Governor Maggie Hassan with the promise that it would sufficiently fund this project,” said Senator Regina Birdsell (R-Hampstead). “It is frustrating that residents and businesses in Southern New Hampshire were told this project would be completed in 2024 but have been met with constant delays and increasing costs. However, I am committed to get this project done and will oppose any effort to put additional financial burdens on the towns.”
