Man charged in May melee
MERRIMACK – Police during the weekend arrested one of at least four young men allegedly involved in two nearly simultaneous car crashes and subsequent foot pursuits that occurred in Nashua and Merrimack in May.
Luis Angel Cruz, 22, of 53 Penacook St., Manchester, was arrested Saturday and charged with one count of falsifying physical evidence, a Class B felony, according to police.
They said officers arrested Cruz on a warrant they had issued as part of their investigation into the incident, which occurred the evening of May 22.
Police said Cruz and another man they didn’t identify were taken into custody that same evening, when officers responding to witness reports of two men running up Hoyt Street caught up to them.
It is unclear if either man was freed after speaking with police, or whether they were charged with any offenses that evening.
Police also said Cruz and the other man had “large amounts of cash in their possession” at the time, and it was later determined they were allegedly fleeing “an alleged illegal cash exchange and road-rage incident” that originated in Nashua.
Just before police learned the men were seen running up Hoyt Street, another set of witnesses reported seeing two men allegedly attempting unsuccessfully to gain entry into a nearby business, and that they “were holding large amounts of cash,” police said.
Upon arresting Cruz on Saturday, police transported him to police headquarters for booking on the single felony count.
He was later released on personal recognizance bail pending arraignment, which is scheduled for Oct. 10 in Hillsborough County Superior Court South in Nashua.
