Dartmouth Health partners with New Hampshire Businesses for Social Responsibility to promote mental wellness in the workplace

By Staff | Oct 7, 2022

LEBANON – In the era of the “Great Resignation” and “quiet quitting,” employers are learning they must do more than just provide a paycheck to keep workers. Employees across industries are recognizing that their mental and physical well-being are essential when it comes to being able to do their job well, and supporting this is an important factor in where they want to work. And for employers, encouraging their employees to take care of themselves isn’t just the right thing to do–it’s good for the bottom line.

New Hampshire Businesses for Social Responsibility (NHBSR) has partnered with Dartmouth Health and several other Granite State-based organizations to design a workplace wellness program. The “Bear in Mind: Workplace Mental Wellness” program assists organizations in destigmatizing mental health, allocating resources to help employees and incorporating programs to manage stress. The program teaches managers how to have compassionate conversations with their employees about mental health, to develop organization-wide practices to reduce stress and manage and support a work-life balance, while respecting boundaries.

The program launches on Monday, October 11, at 11 am with the free webinar “The Truth About Mental Well-being in the Workplace.” Philip Adamo, MD, MPH, medical director of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at Dartmouth Health, will be part of a panel discussing the truth about workplace mental well-being, providing local resources and presenting a business example of a company that has successfully addressed these issues.

“We’ve come a long way as a society in terms of acknowledging the importance of mental health. Now, employers are realizing that employees spend much of their time at work, and it’s incumbent upon them to be supportive of their employees’ mental wellness,” Adamo said. “I look forward to being part of this conversation and am excited that Dartmouth Health and NHBSR can work together to help create healthier, happier workplaces across New Hampshire.”
