NASHUA – Even in these uncertain times, the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua have made sure the accomplishments and milestones of Club members and alumni are recognized and celebrated. Thanks to the generosity of scholarship donors, the Club was able to continue awarding graduating members and alumni with scholarships to support their college/career path, including attending colleges and universities, participating in medical training and licensing programs, or completing trade programs.

The Club was able to award over $70,000 in scholarships to 27 graduating seniors and Club alumni, on par with what they were able to give out last year. The scholarships are provided by a generous group of private donors who have chosen to invest in the scholarship program annually or have created endowed scholarship funds. In all, 14 donors united to create a foundation for the future, including Renu and Kedar Gupta, founders of the Gupta Family Scholarship.

Education excites us,” said the Guptas. “If you are given a good education, a good value system, then hopefully you will be able to do something good with your life. We believe everyone should have what is necessary to go after their dreams and the resources to take steps towards reaching them. If we are able to give back in this way, then it’s all worth it.”

Many who applied and received scholarship were part of the Club’s Be Great Graduate program such as graduating senior and Club member Olivia McCambly who was recently accepted to the Alvernia University where she plans to pursue a career in nutrition and healthcare as well as play on the Golden Wolves lacrosse team.

McCambly said, “The Club and its programs have helped shape me. Thanks to the Club, I’ve become more knowledgeable and confident in the academic areas I intend on pursuing in college, particularly through my participation in the Garden Club and volunteering in the Club’s Camp Mariposa program which provides support for youth impacted by a family members’ substance misuse.”

The Club’s scholarship and Be Great Graduate program are part of the club’s academic success initiative which works to help youth members achieve their long-term career goals through college fair visits, assistance with selecting appropriate high school courses, financial aid workshops, money management seminars, interviewing skills, application help and even a week-long spring college road-trip.

Through initiatives like Be Great Graduate and the scholarship program, the Club hopes to give all Club youth and alumni members the opportunity to achieve future success no matter the obstacles that stand in their way.

“With the current state of things, we know our graduating members and alumni are struggling right now and we want to do whatever we can to help them overcome obstacles that have threatened to put their lives on hold.” said Club CEO Norman Bouthilette. “We are happy to invest in the next generation knowing that it’s promising individuals like our graduates and alumni who will lead us to a brighter future. We wish all the scholarship recipients and graduates good luck on their road to success.”

The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua annually serves more than 3000 boys and girls ages 5 – 18 with a variety of programs and wholesome activities to build attitudes, skills, values and behaviors that enable youth to succeed in adulthood.  The Club is staffed with professional, caring adults and is open to all children who ensure that GREAT FUTURES START HERE each day.  Membership is $35 a year and no child is turned away for inability to pay.  To help or for more information, visit www.bgcn.com or call 883-0523.
